What literature to read?

Hey, sorry for posting so much I have been reading a lot of posting and now I'm ALMOST ready to reload. I'm about to get a FREE single stage reloading press from my mom's friend.

I haven't gotten the chance to ask him what single stage press it is, so I'm just waiting for the surprise

Any-HoooOoOo Whats a good Reloading Text book for a newb like me? And then whats a good Recipe Book for making Pistol/Rifle desert?

I hear ABC to reloading is good to read, and then I hear many people say get at least TWO Reloading recipe book because one might contradict another.

So what would you guys suggest me to read?

I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND Lyman's metallic case reloading manual. It is very informative for beginners.

First of all, you haven't said whether you plan to load pistol or rifle or shotgun, or all three . . . I am a handgun loader only.

This is an older book, published by the NRA in the 1980s, but nothing has come out that is a better loading teaching book to have in your collection. Only available used. You will not regret it...

There are a series of caliber-specific books that MidwayUSA sells which are excellent for that single caliber. You will find them the perfect tool in your loading gear. Click either handgun or rifle (or both)...

The one book I would say to skip is ABCs of Loading. Don't waste your money, or get it from your public library. It is the least useful.

I've not seen them all, but I like the Sierra and the RCBS. Hopefully, you will get some more replies with others' preferences.

Most of all, enjoy it -- handloading is a great extension to a shooting hobby.

Well, most people recommend Lyman 48th, but I've only browsed through it briefly and don't have any first hand experience with it. I liked Speer #13 and think it's a great text for beginners, but they recently released Speer #14. So that would probably be my recommendation.

If you are mainly going to start shooting one specific caliber I'd recommend getting the Loadbook U.S.A. for that caliber. The are about $9-$12 per caliber and they have all the loads from all the major bullet and powder manufacturers. What they don't have is do's and don'ts for reloading. They are not books on how to reload, just booklets of load data that are caliber specific.

But if you get ABC's and the Lyman or Speer the Loadbook would be a nice compliment to them.
