What makes an AR-15 an AR-15?

The only thing affecting the CMP will be them running out of rifles :) I do love that their charter allows them to ship rifles right to your doorstep-even to Cali

The next President WILL appoint several members to the SCOTUS, which is 4 libs, 4 conservatives, and 1 swing.

A dramatic liberal shift WILL kill the 2A in my lifetime. Guaranteed.

Everybody I talked to on the gun boards guaranteed that if Obama won in 2008, we'd have an AWB.

I stood fast in my position then and I am happy to do so again.

Um, wouldn't all receivers available now and up to a hypothetical new AWB be "pre-ban"?

That's how it worked with the '94 ban, but I'm betting they'd prohibit sales of any after the effective date if they enacted a new one.

They're extremely unlikely to overturn a previous ruling, nor are they likely to hand down a new ruling that contradicts a previous one. If SCOTUS is constantly flip-flopping like the rest of the demagogues in congress, they become wholly irrelevant.

As long as we keep fighting the good fight, 2A is relatively safe. Seriously, we enjoy more 2A freedom today than we have for a long, long time. Like, since 1968. You think ATF is a bunch of JBTs now? You know how things were before FOPA? How many states had shall issue CCW or reciprocity in the 1980s and 1990s?

The sky is not falling.

Teres way too many products put out by way too many mfrs re-branded by way too many different companies to really give definite answer to that question LOL

I think the overall message should be, whether or not a ban is likely, we should act as if it is likely at all times. We should not grow complacent just because our gun rights are fairly secure right now. As we see the anti's are constant in their pursuit of restriction as we should be in the pursuit of our right. Personally I think gun rights are on an upswing because as a nation we are getting slightly smarter and more open to rational thought and, as such, gun restriction makes little sense to most. A summary of several personal experiences that I think show this, both my wife and her friend used to be scared of guns, until I took them shooting. Now I'm waiting for the parts to be delivered for my wife's own AR15 and her friend is wanting a Conceal and Carry pistol for safety. So I would say look forward with optimism, but also, vigilance. Now I will hop off my soapbox. Lol.

Whether an AWB will be passed remains to be seen. I personally believe it won't, as firearms has been more prevalent now than it has ever been before. Just count the number of firearms-related shows on TV, Look at the total figures of firearms in US, the increasing rate of CCW and weapon purchases of all types, etc.

If the next administration attempts to pass it, it will be faced with strict opposition. Personally they can come and take my weapons from my cold dead hands.

Back to the original question, an AR15 is a very broad plaform. Banning it in its entirety is nearly impossible IMO; they will go after the "scary" parts of the rifle as they did before.

Latest predictions (via Lou Dobbs if you belive him) have the Repubs keeping the house. So even if O were to win, if the Repubs keep the house I don't think gun legislation would go anywhere anytime within the next 2-3 years, worst case.

The other fear is that O will use executive orders to bypass congress and do as he pleases. He already has a pretty bad track record of doing that.

A lot of the anti gun rules in the past 25 years have been via executive orders.
