All the guys I work with meet up about twice a month to show off new gun purchases, and waste some ammo. One of the guys brought out his brand spanking new Remington 700 SPS tactical. He slapped on a Harris Bi-Pod and a... 40 power scope (almost so excessive it's useless!)

This ain't my usual style of gun, I'm the 1911/shotgun guy of the group... But I'm an ok shot with a rifle (2-3" 5 shots at 100 yds.) We took the first shots with the Remmy at 300yds, drilling clays. They are all or ex-military so they are doing fine...

My turn. First shot = hit. I look up with a wide grin, and say "must've been lucky I guess." Crank the bolt, Second shot = hit, Third shot = hit... you get the point.

My buddies decide to throw up a 4inch Shoot-N-C at the 300 yard line to formally see how well I'm doing. After 5 5-shot groups, my average was a hair more than 2.5" at 300 yds... Not impressive for some, but awesome for me.

I look at the gun's owner and say "If you ever get rid of it call me first."
He says, "Well man, I'm left handed... That's a right-handed bolt."
I say "Price?"
He says, "I got $900 in it, so I'll trade you for your Bushmaster..."

I'm now the proud owne of a Remington 700... My question to you is, "Have you met a gun that feel like you are shooting a laser? You point and click, and a small hole appears right where you wanted it to every time?"

My CZ 75BD. I have no problem nailing an 8x11 sized target at 70 yards, standing.

Been awhile, since I do not do as I used to, but...

I always looked good, and grinned a lot, when someone I taught, or assisted in shooting "done good".

Be this a gal running her first straight in Skeet, or a wittle kid knocking tin cans off a fence post. or...and...so forth.

Age has its perks, and having passed forward as I have, is one of them. -Me

1911s make me look good, and I am comfortable with the manual of arms. So that is where most of my range and carry time are spent.

Although I like the "blonde on each arm" concept, I am no longer all that young, nor is my wallet all that fat. :)

A good story for a change!

.223 I presume? .308!?

And how much better than that can anyone shoot? Well, better ammo and some practice, maybe you. Thing is, plain and simple, you now know you can shoot less than 1 MOA.

Congratulations on it all.

As a kid I was a terrible shot with the NEF 20 ga my dad bought me (I missed a rabbit sitting still at five yds, twice.) but when I turned 15 we went to Cabela's and I got an 870 Express super mag; took it out the first time and powdered 10 clays in a row. I love the gun. Also, when I came home on midtour from Iraq, without shooting a dern thing for 7 months, I shot 22 at the skeet range at Bragg first round out.

I love hearing when a man and a gun come together. 8)

To me it was a PT911. I put 50 rounds through it before I went to a class where all we did was manual of arms under bad conditions, and I don't even have to think about handling it anymore. Reloads, slidelocks, malfunction clearances, ridiculous positions, it's all good. I can *run* this gun. Or at least it feels so good, that I'm not worried about it.

a pint of Old Charter and a broken mirror...
or an accu-trigger Savage SS bull barrel thumbhole BR stock hummer w/ 18X scope and a sandbag

(but not all three on the same day)

My Mk III in Steel Challenge matches.

Compared to the younger kids with their .40 caliber Glocks, I seem to look like a pro. I'm not, but shooting a .22 pistol makes it seem so. If I was shooting their handguns, I couldn't possibly score like I do.

My 6" blued Python always makes me look better. People seem to notice it more than they notice the middle aged, balding guy who's shootig it.

A Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 22-250 that will put 5 shots into a dime at 100m. Opens up a little after that if you don't let the barrel cool down in between shots.

A Remington Model 700 in 30-06, that I sold, would put 5 into a nickel at 100m all day long.

A Glock 21 that loves 230g hardball. Nicknamed "The Lazer".

I've got a Marlin 39 that I can pretty much hip-shoot and for whatever reason hits where I want. Of course, I've put probably four or five thousand rounds through it, so muscle memory counts some.

But what really makes me look good is when my gun friends call me up with "hey I saw a rifle, dunno what it is" and I start the five-questions-or-less guessing game for positive ID. If they understand my questions, I swear I can ID almost anything military over the phone to 99%.
