It's sorta half L frame, half K frame in weight. I picture it here next to my K frame M10 Smith and Wesson. I'm thinking the gun is a M66. Is that right? I bought it used at a gun show for under $200. It's unreal accurate with both .357 and .38 loads, perfectly timed, very tight, and a nice matte nickle finish. I think I friggin' stoled this one. :D It even has a smooth DA trigger with a very crisp, light single action let off that rivals, but doesn't quite equal, my M10 which, of course, is very good. It's a pre-internal lock Taurus, not sure the age of it. It has color case hardened hammer and trigger. Very nice to look at for my eye anyway. I've been through one Rossi and one Security Six in the search for a DA .357 that would shoot this good with .38s and .357s. This one's the one I've kept. I do have a Ruger Blackhawk 6.5" in .357 that shoots as well. I've kept it, too. :D

I have a blue 6" barrel Taurus 66. It's had thousands of both .357 and .38s through it. While not quite the quality of my S&Ws it's been a good gun and a lot cheaper. There were made in also nickle like yours and stainless. The double action pull on mine is very good but the single action not quite as good as the Smiths but not bad. I don't remember exactly when I bought mine, late 80s I believe but I know they changed the lockwork on later models but no internal locks until the late nineties.

lol... This post proves, sadly, that I am a moron. I can never remember my Taurus model number either, and I just did the same thing, and by god, there it was. Nothing like a little humility at 12:45 in the morning.....

Just curious

Your picture of the M-10 appears to show a notch in the barrel ahead of the frame.. Is that a heavy barrel installed on a regular M-10 or something different?

Love those heavy barrel M&Ps.....I have had a number of them and let them go over the years.. Ruined a knee trying to kick myself for being stupid..

Yeah, it had been the sherriff's gun in a nearby county who was a friend of my grandpa. He talked my grandpa out of his early 1900s Peacemaker for that M10. My grandpa just figured he was trading an old revolver that didn't work too well for a newer gun that did. I still lament that trade.

Anyway, the M10 originally had the soda straw barrel. It shot fine, but I wanted a heavy barrel on it, found one cheap new in "Shotgun News" , and had a smith install it for me. The thing is a GREAT shooter. It's early 50s production and really not fired all that much. I've put maybe a thousand rounds through it since I inhereted it, fired some local matches with it. I always get looks when I show to a shoot with an old M10, but the thing is accurate and has an action that's slick as snot. I take their money, don't bother me I don't have a 686. :D

+1 on the Taurus 66

It has had thousands of rounds through it and it keeps on ticking.

The finish on mine is still perfect even after 20 years of hard use.
