At the last IDPA match I went to one of the guys had a stovepipe jam and needed to borrow a screwdriver to help pry the round out of the chamber.

What other items do you all carry in your range bag besides a gun, ammo, mags, eyes and ears?

Adam

Off the top of my head, in the bag I actually tote around the range with me (an old Tenba notebook computer bag):

- SOG Multiplier
- snap caps
- pens and small notebook
- IDPA rule book
- past IDPA classifier scoresheets
- stapler/staples
- target pasters
- first aid stuff - incl. a couple military compress bandages
- sunscreen
- CRKT Pokowlski fixed blade and sheath
- FP10 lube
- small tape measure
- some gallon-size ziploc bags
- rod to clear squibs
- spare foam earlugs
- clif bars
- water
- spare eyes
- Army-issue OD nail bag I found at an antique store to keep the ammo in
- sometimes a can of compressed air to blow dirt/sand out of magazines
- mag brush
- small bug spray
- mag pouches
- holster
- little Wilson belt clip to hold earmuffs
- magazines
- set of Peltor Tac6-s in an old Sony headphone bag

I'll usually have another bag that stays in the car (my new mini I-shot bag) with more food, spare gun and spare gun gear/ammo, GMRS radio w/ earbud; gun parts and cleaning kit with some TW-25b grease; more first aid stuff; couple of small bicycle-style cable locks and some other crap I can't think of right now...

Well, I use a cart, but its the same idea. Lessee if I can remember:

NRA Highpower Rule Book
Marine M16 armorer's manual
heavy duty poncho
first aid kit
one .30 cal OBI and about 4 or 5 .223 OBIs
tums (antacid)
alieve
Victorinox Swisstool
flat screwdriver that fits my rear apertures
rear apertures
clipboard
data book
timer
shooting glove
20 round AR mags in mag pouches
lots of uni-ball waterproof pens
custom earplugs
spare foam earplugs
sight smoker
wind meter
sunscreen
lube
bug spray
one MRE current issue
lots of water

That's about it, I think. Perry will add:

Camelback HAWG with book, raingear, twine, light work gloves, extra sunscreen, and a few other things inside, and a small cooler that will stay at the cart when I go to the pits.

Screwdrivers, lube, pens and pencils, mags, speedloaders, and about 200 rounds of miscellaneous ammo that rolls round under the bag's floorboard.

I need a new bag!

I just inventoried my competition bag and found magazines for guns I don't shoot in competion (Luger, Marlin 995, Ruger Mk 2, Colt 1911, Savage 116, FEG 380, and 3 loaded speedloaders for a Colt Detective Special, plus full moon clips for a 1917 Colt.)

3 Holsters, 2 I don't use Old World pancake for 1911, Bianchi accumold I borrowed for Colt Magnum Carry revolver.

Ammunition for guns I don't use in competition including .22, .25, 380, .45, 30-06, 44 mag, 38's and 357's. (Hundreds of rounds)

A double handful of brass rolling around in the bottom (mixed of course)

An empty bottlke of water.

My sunscreen missing.

My cleaning kit intact but not inside my Dillon border shift bag. Which had no brass or bullets in it.

A Black Panther knife (who knows how that got in there?)

Most importantly, while I found all my 9mm magazines and defensive ammo.. I found NO range/target ammo. NONE.

Looks like my range back got turned into a junk drawer when i helped my dad move across town.

Time to empty it out and refill it with only what I need for a day of IDPA. And I need to get to wallyworld for some cheap Winchester 9mm ammo.

-One of those Brownell's screwdriver sets
-Mine and my wifes hearing and eye protection
-cleaning rod (in case of a squib)
-IDPA rulebook
-timer
-a little plastic case with some patches, oil, Q-tips, spare batteries, and a
small flashlight
-Small case with glove, 4x4 gauze, CPR mask
Of course ammo and stuff but this stuff stays in the bag preloaded.

Howdy! First post here...

My range bag usually contains:

pen

Sharpie (great for marking stuff)

Tape for holding up targets (don't like staples, always manage to puncture myself with the ones other people leave behind  )

Set of little screwdrivers

Set of larger screwdrivers and hex-head tips (a bit redundant, eh?)

11" of 1/4" dowel rod (in case of a squib load)

Shoot-n-see patches (squares, great for patching gently used targets)

speed loaders

extra ears

extra eyes

ear plugs

extra targets

paper plates (these came in handy on a few occasions when I took my range bag to other functions. The folks where I was at were eating something...cake maybe...and I was the only one who produced plates from their bag. Of course, mine had circles drawn with the Sharpie on the bottoms... :D :D )

Some of the other ideas have been great!

I'd like to add:

band-aids
tweezers (I've gotten splinters at the range where I shoot)
wet-naps for cleaning your hands after shooting lead - can get 'em free from a BBQ place - a win-win situation ;)

Rats...now I'm hungry...

After reading the other posts I realize I forgot to add:

- Pact Club Timer II
- and a Super Sharpie!

- Gabe

Some of the above, plus...

If I'm experimenting with reloads and velocity, an assortment of wooden dowels and a hammer. Sometimes I get the velocity way too slow. :)

lets see here:
Magazines
Ammo (.40 reloads Montana Gold 180grn over 5.6 grns of Tightgroup to make major)
empty ammo boxes
Shotgun shells (3 #7 1/2)
Cleaning kit
Spare slide stop and shock buffers for my IPSC gun (CZ75 ST IPSC)
Medical tape
Sunscreen.
Silicon cloth
Screw driver set
Leatherperson
Loose change
Misc Receipts

Thats it for right now
I do have a seperate little range bag that I take when I am just going to plink.

300+ rounds of .45 ACP
FP-10
cotton rags
Allen wrench set
small screwdriver set
Bore brush and small rod
bushing wrench
extra fiber optic
multi-tool
mini torch
extra holster
10 round and 8 round mags (14)
brass bag
several different weight recoil springs
hammer and sear springs
extra disconnector
extra thumb safety
trimmed and deburred shok buffs
extra ear and eye protection
timer

In my bag, I've got the basic gun, ammo, eye & ears PLUS, a multi-tool, a small screw driver, package of orange dots, and a couple bottles of water.

The only thing that I carry in addition to some of the above items, is a brass 8" rod and Brass hammer. It comes in handy for squib rounds. You can use a wood dowel instead of a brass rod if you wish. Enjoy....

Qtips wrapped in a rubber band
Field cleaning kit
Two T-shirt rags
Toolkit
Pipe cleaners
Sun screen
Slip 2000 carbon cleaner and lube
Laundry marker
Eyes and ears
Pencil and slate
100' 550 cord
Electrical tape
Little pink sock with frills

Lots of good ideas listed above and I carry many of them. A couple of items not listed that can come in handy: A kitchen size garbage bag, to put your range bag in if it rains. One of those plastic raincoats that fold up to not much bigger than a handkerchief.

I've got everything except a medical kit/sunscreen. Now I'm shopping for a larger range bag!

In my opinion, you cannot have a small "plinking" bag as you never know what will go wrong.

Definitely like that Shooter's Box from Oshman's. Organizes all of your miscellaneous gear and keeps it seperate from your shooting stuff.

In addition to the excellent ideas already listed...

Cheap calculator for scoring.

White chalk, for keeping track of holes in targets.

Hand and face sweat wiping towel.

I suggest as a squib rod; go to hardware store and purchase threaded brass rod. The 5/16th size is .3125 and works well for .357 sized bores; and 45 as well, no doubt. 3/16th is .1875 and should do for .22 bores. (I don't get many bullets stuck, but a case jams every twice in a while.)
