What optic for a S&W Shield plus that is optic ready?

It is really a personal preference for red or green. Though quite a few with astigmatism find that green dots bloom less than red dots. Try to look through both to see for yourself.

First you have to work a little backwards to the footprint the Shield is cut for. Looking around it looks like it is cut for Crimson Trace optics. Which can either use RMSc footprint or CT's own footprint. Find out which first. Because there is no sense on deciding green or red if you can't get an optic in the color you decide. If it is cut for RMSc that is much better, as it is one of the more popular footprints for micro dots. A proprietary CT footprint, not so much.

I like green dots over red because I have astigmatism, more so in my right (shooting/dominant) eye. If you don't have something like that, it becomes more preference than medical need. Green is often easier to see in bright ambient light though.

I find green easier to see. So does my dog. He gets a lot more excited about green laser pointers then red ones.
