What part of my handgun is the "firearm"?

I did not want to hijack the FedEx thread, so I thought I would start a new one.

It was suggested that the part of the gun that had the serial number was the ATF firearm. I tried google and a search of THR, but was unable to find the definition of a firearm.

Assuming the definition makes reference to the serial number, does it matter if the serial number is located in more than one location on the gun?
 
The frame or receiver with the serial number on it is the "Gun" in the eyes of the law.

Other parts such as the cylinder, or barrel may also have the same serial number on them, but they are just matching parts and are not regulated.

In most cases, the Ruger .22 pistols being one exception where the upper is the “gun”.
 
18 USC 921:

§ 921. Definitions
(a) As used in this chapter—
(3) The term “firearm” means
(A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive;
(B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon;
(C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or
(D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm.
