What pistol had the smoothest slide action you've ever felt?

Have not fired the Baretta 92, but use to own a CZ-75 which was pretty nice. Currently own a P226 and it's the smoothest pistol I've ever fired. For a .45 the USP handles recoil very nicely but has a little muzzle flip with rapid fire because of the high bore axis.

The finish on my 92fs gives it the 2nd smoothest action I have. My EB blued commander length is smoother though. Having nothing but the blued finish, I know the fit is right.

Such a wonderful feeling a slide that glides. I like the look on someone's face when they rack it. Their eyes get wide, followed by a "wow, I like."

Seriously feeling lucky because all my guns are sooo close together it's hard to say, but the top two would hafta be between my kimber and my tanfoglio

Just a few observations here...

disregarding fit and finish and lubrication(ie quality of build being equal):

the browning type action is going to be the least smooth semi auto action and the linkless barrel versions(glock etc) being even less smooth.

weaker calibers will seem smoother than more powerful calibers

Full length rails will reduce smoothness and the glock type rails will increase smoothness

Fixed barrels will be more smooth than the browning type barrel.

Walther/beretta type actioins will be between fixed and browning type in smoothness

Pistols with a gas piston system will appear smoother than those with a full strength recoil spring.

Therefore, the ultimate SMOOOOTH pistol will be a smaller caliber, gas system pistol(aka H&K P7) with a glock/springfield XD type slide rail.

You can come up with all sorts of formulas if you like... but my beretta feels smoother than my fixed barrels... and my full length rail sig feels much smoother than my Glock type rails.

(yawn)...fit and finish...quality of build

I get what you're saying, but honestly, it makes no sense to try to ignore factors which have a huge bearing on the results.

It would be like describing the fastest cars, and then disregarding engine size. One you throw that out the window there's no more meaningful discussion to be had.

Besides my Cz75 (I think the smoothest one I own), I think the smoothest I've ever shot was an old 1911, rented at an outdoor range at a friend's bachelor party weekend. I don't know if that's because it was so old and abused that parts didn't have enough touching to rub, or because it was so lovingly cared.

1. Ed Brown - Molon Labe
2. Springfield - Professional
3. Springfield - TGO-1
4. Nighthawk - Talon
5. Wilson - Enforcer

In that order.....

not exactly. The fastest cars typically don't have the biggest engines.

A gun with no lube and rough surfaces can be made smooth by the owner.

I handled a number of different pistols guns before I got my Beretta 96, but as soon as I racked the slide on a Beretta 92, I knew it was the one for me.

92FS... it is definitely like "butter" as previously mentioned. Plus, vs. the Glock, the 92s slide "noise" as it locks and loads is every bit as intimidating to me as a pump shotgun's.
