300 series stainless buttons for the front guard screws on bench guns and single shots.
Can be used to play backgammon too.
Finally gettin around to sewing up that 300 Remmy Ultra too. Here's the stock after waxin er up.
Sanding, sanding, and more sanding. One of these days I'm going to write this thing up as a surface in CAD so that I can just machine it DONE and finish sand with 600. This chit takes too long and I pick my nose with a salad spoon regardless of the respirator I wear!
Crown it, install the brake (I do these last on everything, too easy to nick it up), stick a trigger in her, final fluff and buff, and it's off to the range!
Projects? The list is long and sordid:
1.- Convert the enroute 1916 Spanish Mauser to a Scout configuration. This will be the wifes primary deer rifle and our "there's a bunch of hogs down below the house" rifle, so it's at the top of the to-do list.
2.- Work on the trigger pull of Dad's Mark X mauser.
3.- Strip and Parkerize a couple of Ishapore 2A's. They do take Park'ing well and look so nice when finished!
4.- Bead blast and Parkerize my M44 Scout rifle...then sell it.
5.- Design/make/alter/modify a clamp-on sight mount for my High Power K31 so I can mount a Redfield Palma sight on it.
By the time these projects are finished, there'll be more!
Last night I had cause to take a pic of current projects on my bench. Well at least some of them that involved 'golfballing'.
No wonder my bank account is hurting!!!
I need to get a few of these finished up before I add any new ones.
here is one of my stranger projects, a 220 swift AI mosin nagant.
it started out as a slightly sportered remington 1891. the original barrel had been shortened to 24", it had been put in a ati stock, bolt slightly bent & marbles sights.
the barrel was toast so it sat in the corner for about a year.
then i got a wild hair & decided to make something interesting out of it.
the barrel is from a remington 722 & was originally chambered in .222. after rethreading it came out to 24 7/8" long to the face of the receiver. i still have to add sights & i may add a q/d sidemount to ait with a weaver K-6. timneys side safety mosin trigger is out now so i'll order one next week for it. i still have to tweak the ejector & do a little work on the magazine since 220 swift cases are to small in diameter to stay in the magazine.
i'm going to do something with the bolt handle too when i put the scope on.
bolt head modified for .473 casehead next to a standard bolthead. i also shimmed the extractor back .010.
barrel being threaded
i was going to use this receiver for a 22-250 build with a tikka barrel but i thought it would be neater to use the remington barrel on the remington receiver & i'll do the 22-250 on another hex receiver
I have a couple projects planned, and have a line on some 9mm chrome moly barrel blanks. Anyone needing a 9mm barrel blank for their project, let me know. I think the blanks are about .800x18 inches, but can be cut down if you need shorter lengths. [email protected]
Boy did I get a dussy this week. A North American Arms Mini revolver in 22 LR that the cylinder wouldn't rotate. Not again!!
Took her apart and found bolt spring loose inside loose, been here before and talked to their tech. last time so I'm confident today. WRONG
After taking apart and finding spring loose inside 5 times I finally decided to look for other problems. What do you know I found the hand loose on it's shaft so no matter how carefully you assembly after the first rotation the springs off.
I found it's only held together with friction and Lok-Tite as far as I can tell. It's too small to silver solder (for me at least) so I used perminent Lok-Tite and it's curing for 24 hours now . Tomorrow morning I start again.
Ya wanna hear something really stupid? When I was having problems I took mine apart to see if anything was different. There was. I lost the hand spring and it disolved upon hitting floor. Lucky I had the right diameter music wire and an example to make one (made 3) or I'd have been in deep Kim Chee.
1+ for NavyRetired's misery with the NAA 22 cal LR.
I thought I was the only one that might have had to make a spring until I could order one from the factory. This darn little gun is like a gunsmith's Rubik's cube.......only a few parts, but misery to assemble. So, I spent some time learning a few tricks how to do it quickly, and thought some might find them useful as well.
Turning a pair of Minis into Tacticle Carbines; Barrels, triggers, bedding, stocks, a few mods.
Somewhere I have a barrel from a P-14 Enfield I wanna make a SS 762X39 stalking gun.
Navyretired was that SARCO 1911 frame what they advertise as a tweaker frame. I have one I`m having some trouble with. if it`s the same advertized frame let me know. Thanks, Gary
