Suppose I wanted to buy a genuine vintage 1911 from WWI or II.

1) Since such a firearm obviously wouldn't have a Ser. 80 type "safety" feature, it wouldn't technically be CA-legal. Would it qualify as a C&R, thus exempting it from such restrictions?

2) What are the prices on such specimens anyway?

Thanks!

Dr.Jones-
You might not be able to find a pre Series 80 pistol for sale in CA that is new...but the good news is that you can find one through private party transfer.

There is a gun shop in Monterey County that has a bunch of series 70 specimens. If your interested PM me and I'll shoot you the number. All the 1911s are in pretty good condition.

To be C&R it must be 50 years old, or fall into the list of Curio handguns. But in California, it doesn't really make any difference. You still have to go through the ffl, pay all the fees and suffer all the waiting periods.

Actually for CA (other C&R folks correct me if I read the regs wrong) it's 50 years period. Even if the Feds have a 30 year old gun listed as C&R, it's not available to CA C&R license holders. For those sidearms that ARE CA C&R, you don't have to go through an 01FFL if you buy the gun in person out of state. You do have to fill out a form and send it and (I think) $15 to CADOJ as soon as you bring it into the state. Buying a C&R sidearm either in CA or through mailorder requires the 10 day wait, etc. just like a modern gun.

There is no such thing as a private sale in the People's Republik of California. ALL sales have to go thru an FFL.

With how unfriendly they are toward firearms, I wouldnt be surprised if in order to qualify as a C&R it has to be at least 100 years old, and only use black powder. I know that aint the way it is, but give the idiots in charge out there some time. Before long you'll have to have a special license to buy a slingshot.

Here's something I found interesting/bad: A Yugo SKS, which is C&R, isnt CA legal unless the grenade launcher is removed....and now its no longer C&R.

You just cant win with those b@stards in the state .gov there.
