I think i may go the route of getting a 30cal M1 Carbine. Always liked those, and it would be a fun gun to shoot, even for my wife.

Now, tell me... where do you get brass and bullets from at best prices and maybe even your favorite load.... :) It'll give me a good starting spot.. on buying, and I ALWAYS start low, and work up my loads.. :) Thanks guys!

Henry45,

I get once-fired brass and cast my own bullets, so I can reload the .30 Carbine for the price of .22 rimfire. My favorite load with my cast bullets is 12.5gr of 2400. With 110gr jacketed bullets I use 14.5gr of IMR4227. I have some extra once-fired brass, so PM me if interested.

Well, I just started loading .30 Carbine myself. I am starting to get a load put together with IMR4227. I bought 500 Plated .30 Carbine bullets from Xtreme...if they hold up they are a good deal for $40/500. I'll keep you posted.

OK, I went out and shot some Xtremes. The load was:
IMR 4227 13.8gr
1.67 OAL
Brass: Mixed/Mostly LC 43
Xtreme 110Gr 30Carbine Plated
2.5" 15-round group with 2 fliers
No signs of separation
Shot from a table with no rest.

That's about as good as I get with my eyes these days. The group opened up to 5 1/2 inches or so at 100, 5" or so drop.

I have Ruger 30 Carbine and 357 Blackhawks as well as many other 38 SPL/357 revolvers. I use SRP in all of them as well as in a couple 22 Hornet rifles I own. That along with the various 223/30 Carbine firearms uses up a metric butt load of SRP around here each year. Most revolvers will fire a SRP/MSRP with no problem

Another recommendation for 300 BLK. Since you already reload .223, just get a small chop saw from Harbor Freight, etc, make a jig, and cut down some of the .223 brass and run it though a 300 BLK die to put the proper neck on it, and load 'em up. BLK is fun to shoot, and you can put anything from 110 to 220 grain bullets in them. Typical loads use around 15-19 grains of powder, H110, Win 296, LilGun and AA1680 are probably the most popular powders for it.

As said above, if you have an AR, build/buy another upper and just swap it onto your present lower, no new gun registration required.
