Ok, I live in utah, hunt, and will want this gun for that and the zombie appocalypse, and fun, wilderness survival, as a carry gun for a few years, just anything that comes my way. anyway, should I get a Smith & Wesson model 27 or 29, or a Dan Wesson RZ-45 heritage 1911? please don't recomend me another gun unless it is about the same as the above.

how much handgun shooting have you done? tough to find a good omini-gun but I might suggest a 1911 & 22lr conversion kit for plinking

Though I recommend a 22LR for a first handgun, or at least soon thereafter, of the three options you have listed I would personally go with the S&W Model 27 in .357 Magnum. Or even better, a Model 28 Highway Patrolman, which is the same gun as the 27 with a more economical, less lustrous blued finish. The Model 29 is a classic and a very cool choice, but in .44 Magnum/special it a pricey animal to feed, if you aren't planning on reloading.

The Model 27 or 28 will be able to shoot everything from mouse fart wax bullets and shot shells to heavy 180 grain 357 Magnum loads, with lots of great 38 Special loads in the middle. IMHO, a 357 Magnum revolver is probably the best all around handgun one can buy. Plus, you can swap out the stocks with dozens of different choices in both wood and rubber.

Because your in Utah and mentioned wilderness survival I voted for the 29. You have dangerous game in your state and off the beaten path I would want the hardest hitter I could get. I might even consider the S&W 460VXR which offers you the option of firing .45 Colt, .454 Casull, or .460 SW Magnum.

I'd still go with a .22, personally. Lets you shoot a lot and get used to handgun marksmanship, and it's usable for most of your purposes.

Zombies need a headshot, and a round of .22 will do the job fine. :p

Fun, a .22 is plenty of fun, and very cheap to feed.

For wilderness survival, a .22 will allow you to bag small animals. If you're seriously trying to live off the land until you can find your way to civilization or something, you'd probably be best off hunting and trapping animals that are small enough to eat in one sitting, rather than killing a 100 pound animal, eating 2 pounds of it, and then having 98 pounds of meat, organs, bones, and hide that you have no clue what to do with.

CCW... you'll need another handgun.

Your first gun SHOULD be a .22 revolver.

Of those listed, the .357 gets the nod.

Get the revolver. They're ideal for beginning shooters because of their simplicity. I wouldn't worry too much about capacity, as the vast majority of personal defense situations require six shots or less. And if you have it cut for moon clips, you can reload it at least as fast as an automatic pistol.

IMO, as far as handguns are concerned, you really can't get much better than an old-school .357 Magnum wheelgun.

I wanted to say a Browning HP since you are from Utah (home of JMB), but then I saw that you might use it for hunting. So I went with the Smith.
