I've narrowed my two choices down to the Taurus PT740 Slim and the Kahr CW45.I like the stopping power of the .45 cal. over the .40 cal.. But i think the Kahr will just a tad more bulky.I plan on carrying it,and wearing it in
" Belly Waist Band " under my uniform at work.

I know that they are both very reliable and cost about the same.

Thanks For your input !

You can't go wrong with Kahr or Taurus, but I'd go with the Taurus for increased capacity and, possibly, less recoil. .40 is just a more practical round IMO for a subcompact than .45. Though my favorite caliber for subcompacts is 9mm.

That about sums it up. I know you'll never hear the .45 guys admit it but...the .40 S&W also hurts like a B@#$% when it hits you. Haha

IMHO the 40 is more of a flipp. The 45 is more of a push.

I would pick the one that feels better in your hand. I personally would take the Kahr.

Having owned both a Taurus 709 Slim and a Kahr CW9...it's got to be the Kahr.

I loved the size of the Taurus but the constant problems made it unreliable (failure to extract) and I never managed to get more than 3 consecutive shots thru it (after 70 rounds it went back to factory and was traded back to the dealer I bought it from...and he had to return it again).

The Kahr is only slightly bigger (which fits me better anyway) and has exhibited zero problems so far (200 rounds). We don't have ccw here in FOIDistan but I carry in border states regularly and the Kahr will be my main ccw after I put a few more thru it. Until then, it's my J frame in the holster.

First, you better check your employer's policy on firearms at the work site. There may be a no tolerance policy in their rules.
I have a Rossi .38/.357 revolver and a Taurus .40 Millenium Pro which I change however I'm seriously considering a Ruger LCP .380.
The Ruger LCP .380 is basically a type of firearm which can be taken anywhere (where appropriate) anytime. It's small and becomes invisible.
Many have knocked down the efficiency of the .380 round however I have looked into this caliber very carefully. Yes, I like the .45 and .40; but bigger is not necessarily better.
With the advent of smaller .380 pistols ammunition manufacturers also have kept up with bullet technology. .380 ammo is getting better like the Cor Bon jacketed hollow point 90 grain and others which expand uniformly. Typical engagement will be 10 feet or less, so with better ammo out there the .380 seems quite attractive relating to carrying and the weapon being totally invisible.
I would consider the Ruger LCP a nice choice which I would carry more often most of the time. There are many hours in the week I cannot carry-but the Ruger LCP is the type of firearm one can take just about anywhere, invisible, and light weight.

Get the Kahr. I have a pm9 and I love it. Thinking about getting a CW45 myself. Taurus is crap, alot of people like them, a lot of people have problems with them. I never wanted to risk it. I don't know about the CW45, but I know that most of them are rated for +P, I'm not too sure about the taurus. Of all the guns I've research Taurus by far has the most problems of all the major gun makers.

Question: Have you fired both of these models or any others you had considered.

If not do that first. Then compare which gun and caliber combination you shot the most accurately in the least amount of time (follow up shots matter) and you will have your answer.

Holgersen, I have fired over 600 rounds through my Taurus Millenium Pro and it works like a charm, and quite accurate also.

Every gun make has had problems, so to single out Taurus is quite unfair.

I think it's fair - why not go with the best odds when choosing about a product that might save your life one day?

Taurus is crap, alot of people like them, a lot of people have problems with them.

Be careful, it's easy to fall into the trap of believing that just because you here more complaints it means it is a worse product. More complaints could mean that comparatively more people have bought the gun, so the odds increase for people getting a lemon. This happens a lot to more affordable firearms, like Taurus handguns, that have more customers due to their attractive price. My taurus 709 has been flawless.

I've heard a lot of bad reviews about Kahrs as well, and I still recommend them because my pm9 has been great. Why does every thread that Taurus is asked about have to turn into a Taurus bashing fest?

I'm not you, I don't know you, I don't know how you shoot
the fit and feel of a gun is a personal thing, I like stuff different than you, some like metal, some like plastic, some like pocket carry, others think a Desert Eagle .50 is a poor compromise (it's hard to hide a 20mm under a shirt...)

My point is, try the guns out, and find out what you like, both guns have a pretty good rep, just realize that
light and small = more recoil
I understand that .40 is snappier than .45, but from my experience, I find 9mm to be more manageable in a smaller/lighter gun.

Even though the CW series is Kahr's "budget line" Kahr quality is head and shoulders above Taurus. I have owned two Millenium series Tauri and they were ok. I now own a CW9 and a CW45 and they are excellent.
