Adult son of Pa. legislator abducted in Philly

Tuesday, August 29, 2006
The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- The adult son of a state lawmaker was abducted from a Philadelphia street at gunpoint, and his mother and sister were shot by intruders a day later, officials said.

Shamari Taylor, 26, the son of Rep. John Myers, was missing for a third day today, police said.

Philadelphia Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller, a close friend who visited with Mr. Myers last night, described the Philadelphia Democrat, who has been a vocal advocate for gun-control legislation, as worried, but hopeful.

"He's not ready to talk about it," Ms. Reed Miller said.

Mr. Taylor's 56-year-old mother was hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being shot in the head. The sister, 21, had been treated and released Sunday evening.

Mr. Myers was still trying to get information," Ms. Reed Miller said. "He has a lot of questions."

Police consider the crimes connected, based on descriptions of the assailants provided by the sister and by a female companion who said she was abducted Saturday night along with Mr. Taylor.

The companion said a group of seven to 10 men shoved them into a van at about 11 p.m., an hour after Mr. Taylor had left home, according to Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker.

The woman said she was released at about 5 a.m. Sunday. She did not contact police until about 5 p.m., Lt. Walker said.

Two hours later, two intruders -- who may have had a key -- entered the West Philadelphia home of Mr. Taylor's family, Walker said. They shot the women and then rummaged through Mr. Taylor's bedroom, leaving with an undetermined amount of cash.

The motive remained unclear.

Disgusting. And I mean the 'victims' too. Get kidnapped at gunpoint and released and you wait half a day before calling police?

Wouldn't be surprised if the 'victims' were also into shady business and it took them 12 hours to stuff all the skeletons into the closet.

7-10 hoodlums burst in, kidnap 3 people, shoot granny. Release 2, and they wait 12 hours to call police. ****, over*

Clearly the answer is more gun control... /sarcasm

Sounds like something out of Hollywood. Why shoot Granny in the head? Also, an operation involving 7-10 men with the accompanying legal risks hardly seems worth it for 10K.

Something does stink quite badly about this situation, 12hrs to call the cops? Anyone check their trashcans or sewer clean-outs?

Sheesh!

Wouldn't be surprised if the 'victims' were also into shady business and it took them 12 hours to stuff all the skeletons into the closet.

Reason # 1 why you should own a backhoe.

Yup. There is something fishy here, and it ain't the chicken.

One should only need a gun to protect one's self and family, not a squad of police and an army of lawyers!
