I have been doing research for about a month, mostly on the Mosin Nagant series of rifles. I've narrowed my choice down to the Finn M-39 and the site I'm going to buy it from as well, www.gunsnammo.com. I know hes a very reputable M-39 dealer and I want to jump on one those deals before he runs out. I was leaning towards one of the antique M-39s, but I am hesitant because this will be my first rifle. So my question is what to expect.

Almost everything I've read said these things are exceptionally accurate and this dealer is claiming that they have "bright shiny bores". But when you can visibly see pitting on some of the parts it kinda frightens me. Aesthetically speaking, I'm not expecting much and I know the gun isn't going to be able to shoot incredibly long distances while maintaining accuracy. I'm really just looking for a fun manly rifle, that I can shoot some good groupings with, at around 100 yards. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

welcome to the high road, and welcome down the road to milsurp heaven!
Mosins, especially the Finnish flavor, can be very accurate, pleasant rifles to shoot and collect.
Don't worry about antique receivers, they are just as strong and well made as newer ones. You can expect metal and wood to have some wear. Buy the best bore condition you can, and try different kinds of ammo to see what it likes.
WARNING! It isn't possible to buy just one, they will multiply if left alone.
Here's another website, where lot's of the Mosin Nagant nuts hang out....

Good luck, let us know what you get.:)

listen, if you get one, the triggers are very simple and easy to take apart. Disassemble the trigger and polish the surfaces that contact each other and you will see a big improvement.
