My Father-in-law has probably everything he needs but at Christmas I still try and find something he hasn't got yet.
The past few years I did pretty well with pocket knives but feel it's time to try something different.
He has incalculable amounts of handguns and rifles already, he does handload, he does compete.
I'm looking for something that is new on the market that he either hasn't got yet, or hasn't seen yet.

Something like the Wheeler Engineering FAT wrench.

Any better ideas?

That actually might be kinda cool...if he's already set up for his hobbies, that might be a good choice.

A membership to the NRA if he doesn't presently belong.

Laser bore sighter

ammo or components

gift certificate to a sporting goods store

a blow up doll & a soft air gun for indoor practice ;)

I'm looking for new items.
He's already a life member to the NRA with all the gadgets in the world and does his own reloads.
I don't get gift certificates for people, they are impersonal and often these days have hidden obsolescence.

Anyone actually aware of any new products, new developments in firearms accessories?
Or does someone want to recommend I get him a 1911?

Swinging steel targets. I have some but you can always use several.

My local dealer has a ton of Beretta clothing. You could get a shirt/coat etc with his favorite logo.

Vibra-prime to load primer tubes.

A few pounds of his favorite powder.

Does he fish or hunt?? I'm getting some hunting and fishing DVD's. Good for cold winter days.

I got some Comfort-Temp sox from QVC. I have trouble with cold feet, and these were plenty warm even when I sit on stand at 28 degrees for hours.

As boring as some of this sounds, I'd rather get something I'll use. The screwdriver will always come in handy, but there's a big price spread between a 1911 and screwdriver

I have been told I am hard to shop for because I have "everything".
However, my GF's two youngest(both over 25) sons gave me an early Christmas present that I didn't have:
Springfield XD-45 with 2-13rd mags, holster, double mag pouch, loading tool, etc.
I don't have a Barret .50 cal, but I DO have a birthday in Feb. HINT,HINT. Hope they read this . :D

In these cases, I usually go for something that the person would appreciate but hasn't yet realized would be useful/timesaving/neat/cool.

It's the thought that counts, and thinking of something cool that he doesn't even know he'd like.

what kind of competition does he do? If CAS them maybe a nice duster or period pants.

You said no gift certificates, but maybe make an arrangement with the 'smith for some trigger tweaking or rebluing.

Let me tell you this story...

The president of my company is a multi millionaire. Us managers get him a gift for Christmas every year that is in the 1200-1500 range. So, it equates that we all put in about 100 bucks. I know its strange that WE buy him a gift like that, but he is the best guy in the world, no doubt about it.

Anyway, a couple years ago, I was tasked with helping pick out his gift.

He got a Colt 6920 AR-15.....lovely gift!!!!!

QVC has propane tank gauges for $20. They are good needle gauges that go between the tank and your grill's regulator, not the stick on, gotta pour boiling water over cheesy ones. My wife got me one, they are well made and work great. Just the other day I had a brainfart and left the grill on, the grill shut off when the gauge said the tank was empty...

2007 year calendar.

Kinko's and other similar quick printing places will take your photos and make calendars.
There may be a software one can get to do themselves.

Just use photos with special memories - one for each month. Ideas I have seen are the Adult, as younger, out shooting, reloading, hunting, competitions.

If the Adult is a grandparent, do one with grandkids. Guaranteed hit! Grandkid learning to shoot, getting a gun from grandparent, first hunt, the new puppy, wearing grandparents hat, boots, using a reloader...

I know one photo used in a calendar is particularly funny for a family. The Browning .22 Auto Rifle in these photos -"used" to be Grandpa's, it was "stolen" by grandma, then "stolen" by granddaughter. :p
Various photos of these persons, with this same gun over the years.

Just the gift

Get him the "Dyna-Flex Lighted Gyro Power Ball"

Seriously, these things are fun to play with, but also great for improving your grip strength and warding off carpel tunnel syndrome! They list all sorts of sports that it can help with (mostly racquet type sports) but it's a good trainer/strengthener for pistol shooters as well.

If he carries his pistols to the range in gun rugs, then a couple of nice suede gun rugs is a good idea. Allen makes 'em, Midway sells them. They are 'way fancier and classier than the standard vinyl rugs.

Dogbonz, that exploding target idea is great.
