What to look for when buying a used revolver?

I'm looking to buy my first revolver, and have decided on getting an S&W 625. I want a pre-agreement model for the usual reasons. I doubt I'm going to find a NIB gun that's been sitting on some dealer's shelf for 6 years, so it's going to be used.

What do I need to look for when inspecting the gun? Also, what would be a fair price for such a gun?
