Summary:
To keep burglars out, good locks are needed on all doors

Security bars are needed on basement windows

A door-reinforcer prevents crooks from gouging out locks

"Door jammer" can be used in rental homes, hotel rooms

Anybody shocked at this willful ignorance? locks will not keep you safe. Sorry. Security bars will only hamper you. Door-reinforcement? puh-lease. I say we e-mail CNN and tell them about such blatant sheep mentality. I think we should break out from our Internet dens and take this to the streets. Deadbolts wont keep you safe from one who wishes you harm. (Sorry if this is the wrong forum)

This article is not anti-gun, and the ideas they give are good ones. Yes, a gun might help, but it is also a last resort. The trick is to keep people out BEFORE you need to use the gun. Also, some people are not comfortable with guns and these ideas will come in handy for them. Their wishes should be respected, just as ours should be respected.

Better locks also mean that a crook wont break in while you're not in the house (like most burgularies) and steal your guns (how they acquire the majority of guns used in crime). An choice on an inexpensive investment in better locks could mean keeping or losing your $500-5000+ collection

Dunno, those all seem like pretty good ideas to me......

Hey, it's just like that show 'It Takes A Thief'. No mention whatsoever of firearms in any episode.

Plenty of alarm systems installed though. Seems to me most of the forts and fortresses built in years past also had defensive weapons.

If by this you mean that locks can be defeated, hence not keeping you safe, the same could be said for guns.

The suggestions they make are things that work without continued operation. Hardening your perimeter will keep you safer while you are asleep than your gun.
