I got these in a trade today. I'm told they are about 15 years old. I don't think plated bullets have been around that long so my guess is they're FMJ. If they are plated, would 4.8-9gr of Win231 blow up my pistols? Would you load them or work up from the start again?

A. Look like tmj (totally metallic jacketed)
B. Weigh them
C. Measure the diameter (should be .355 to .357 for 9mm)
D. Go to loading manual and choose load for the weight for a fmj bullet, start at "starting" load

Look like plated to me. 4.8-4.9 would be about max I would push them. I would start lower and run a few groups working up. I agree that you should measure them. If they are true .357 and they are jacketed then I would not use them in 9mm.

They're 115gr, but interestingly the dozen or so that I measured were all .354". I guess that settles it. 4.8 of 231 is my standard load for 115 FMJ, but with these start from the bottom.

They look an awful lot like my rainier ballistics plated 115gr.
beat me to it ^^^^^^^^^ as said above scrape one with a knife , or more fun , whack one with a hammer , you'll know then , the plating will flake off

Yup they look like Ranier bullets. They say the concave tail helps the seal of the bullet when fired. They still sell em and I like em!
Midway has them in 115 and 124grain with the concave tails.

be safe.

I second following the work up for 115 gr FMJ. It looks just like mine. uploadfromtaptalk1389450196167.jpg
I just started low and worked up. 4.0gr of Red Dot. Can't get any cheaper than that for plinking.

I've seen hundreds of thousands of those and I know exactly what they are. Those are Speer TMJ. They are plated much thicker than most other plated bullets. The only other concave base bullets I know of are made by xtreme but xtreme hasn't been around for 15 years. The only ones I know of for sure who have been making plated bullets with a concave base for 15 years is Speer.

Thanks Jake. I bought some 95gr Speer TMJ from you a while back. Just pulled them out and the bottoms look a lot like the picture I posted. Next bullets I buy will be from you.
