What velocity are you getting out of your 7mm Rem Mag loads?

I looked on Hornady's website for some general idea of what velocity I should be getting out of a 7 Mag and I was kind of surprised with how low it was. I have a pound of H1000 and was expecting to see a max load with velocities in the 3300 FPS range using 140 grainers and about 3200 FPS with 150 grainers. Hornady lists their max velocities about 100-200 FPS slower than my estimates.

I expected to be able to get them going a little hotter than that with relative ease considering factory 140 grainers are supposedly going about 3100. Did I miss the mark or are Hornady's figures a bit conservative?

Hornady’s numbers run low. Several reasons.
1. Data is from a 24” reference barrel. Original Remington numbers were with 26”bbls.
2. Original data was with copper crusher testing. Newer data is with piezo electric diodes.
3. Hornady doesn’t list actual max load and velocities. They round down to even 100fps increments and extrapolate powder charge.

Using RL22 or RL25 in my Remington M700 CDL w/26”bbl, I do get 3,300fps with a 140. 3200 with a 150gr Ballistic Tip, and 2,900 with a 175gr PPU soft point.
My plinking/blasting/deer load is the PPU 175 over 78.0gr of WC860 for 2,780fps. Inexpensive load that’s 1.5moa. (Bought 16lbs in 2005, still have 10lbs or so...).
I use Remington brass, Federal 215primers.

Hodgdons data also uses 24”bbls. My 26” Savage M110 in .300 RUM easily gets 100fps above most published data. Use Retumbo or RL25. I really like H4831 too. My .300 RUM is outstanding with IMR7828, too.

73-74gr of retumbo have pushed 162 Amax at velocities between 2990-3150 from my 24" and 26" 7Mags....ive owned a few of each.

72gr of H1000 gets 3000 from my 24" S20

These are factory rifles with relatively short throats and/or magazines. Coal is at longest 3.45ish, which is the S20

I've had a couple of 7 mags over the years, but only one after getting into reloading and buying a chronograph. That was a Howa. I was never able to find a load that got much over 2900 fps with 160ish gr bullets. I had a 300 WSM that was getting 2950 with 180's and I was getting 2800 with 180's from my 30-06.

On paper the 7mm Rem mag looks good and I really wanted to like it. If I hadn't had a chronograph I might still have it, but the numbers didn't lie. I just couldn't justify keeping it when I was getting the performance I was from my 30-06. My 30-06 was only about 100 fps slower with similar BC bullets. Just not that much difference.

I did eventually let the 300 WSM go as well. Another cartridge I liked. I just didn't need it.

I can ring out 3120 Fps using 156 Gr. CuNi European bullets . Don't know the manufacturer of Bullets as I got them Bulk ,about 7K umpteen years back a lifetime supply . Wouldn't do You any good knowing the load ,as you're unable to get the powder . I still have a viable amount of H870 . I ran that load out of My 3K L Commercial Mauser ,purchased New in 1965 . I've Not shot that load particular out of My Tikka .

However was Good enough to travel uphill 540 yd. across a canyon in Alaska for this fellow .

2950-3000 using H1000 or RL23 with 160/162gr bullets in my Tikka 24" 7RM. I've pushed em to 3060, but accuracy is around 3000 in my rifle. I shot up a box of 150's with h4831 and it didn't do anything over 3000fps before pressure signs. I kinda expected 3100fps with 150's and would expect 3200 with 140's.
