i have learned that building your own is a great way to go and allows you to do so and customize to the exact specs that you want, and save the most amount of money as possible. i am currently having an spr upper built, but i think my next ar which i want complete i want to build myself, i think it would be neat and with the figures i came up with it won't cost me much more than $600 to get everything i want. i am plainning on just going with a 20" a2, i have an m4 and spr already and i think an a2 would should be next.

so what was ya'lls first ar build and if you have pics that would be great if you would like to share. also what sources did you use to build it, ie instructional dvd's, manuals etc? thanks guys!

my first build was a no name 16" post ban upper and an olympic lower. Got the upper and all internal parts for $200 from a friend right after the ban expired, bought an olympic lower for $99, and built my first AR. I used AR15.com for some pointers, and i looked at my other AR's to see how the internals went together.

sounds like a heck of a deal, an ar for $300 sounds great to me. yeah i say on ar15.com where they have step by step directions, on how to put alot if not all of the ar's together. great resourse it is.

I built two at the same time, for my first builds. Both are Stag lowers, the SBR is a Bushy 11.5" barrel on an A3 upper.

The other is an 18" bushmaster medium contour barrel (20" that was shortened) on a Bushmaster A2 upper.

For my first built, I picked up a lower for a Florida source (Anvil Arms: http://www.anvilarms.com/). I got that along with a parts kit at a gun show.
Then bought a used pre-ban A2 upper (Bushmaster) from a guy on AR15.com for a great price. Bought a used A2 stock from Auction Arms (Reliant One--in Florida), and put the whole thing together for just about $500. It shoots great, looks evil, and is Gulf War era correct (which is what I was looking for).
I also, just got the moly resin finish in yesterday to spray my Vietnam War era AR15 lower (partial fence from Tactics LLC) to match the M16A1 upper I got from CDNN (hope to have that together next week).
Just something I had to do to celebrate Nancy's ascension to the throne.

The first AR that I built is a midlength carbine. It's got an RRA chromelined 1/9 twist barrel that was turned down to a Govt. profile under the handguards by ADCO. The upper receiver, lower parts kit, NM trigger and stock are all RRA. The lower receiver is an Eagle Arms. When I first built it, it just had the RRA carry handle and a Cavalry Arms fixed stock (It was bult during the AWB). Now it has a Bushnell Holosight red dot and an ARMS #40 rear sight with an XS Sight Systems same plane arperture.

I still have this carbine in this configuration and it's still one of my favorites.

I dont have pics, but it was an Oly lower, and a 20" A2 upper. I put it together about 7 years ago. It is really what "seriously" got me into guns. Till then I pretty much had a Fudd collection.

Stag Upper (flat top, came with ARMS#40 BUIS) on self assembled DPMS lower (it's what the store had), Bushmaster parts kit.

I like it a lot.

My second build. It has me jonesin' for a 20" flat top upper. Bushmaster lower, Armalite upper.

My first AR was an Olympic carbine w/11.5" stainless steel HBAR and a 5" flashhider. The first AR I built was in 1990 on a stripped Bushmaster lower receiver and a Nesard parts kit. It was your standard A2, except for a full HBAR.

My first was built with a Mega Gator lower, Stag lower parts kits, and a Stag M4gery upper with RRA flattop mount so my EOTech will co-witness with the iron sights.

very nice, i replied to the thread you started, great first build, i love the tan and black. that is too cool. thanks for sharing and great job, it looks awesome.

I just got my first AR, although I wouldn't call attaching a complete upper to a complete lower "building." It's a 16" RRA A4 midlength upper with the 1:8 .223Wylde SS barrel and an Ameetec Arms complete lower w/H-buffer, with an LMT BUIS. Total shipped was $771, which illustrates one of the problems with this site and AR15.com: if you look around too much, you'll probably spend more than you originally planned. I originally planned on using a no-options Del Ton kit, Essential Arms lower, and YHM fixed BUIS ($625 shipped). That being said, I have no regrets. . . so far:uhoh::)

just got my first two lowers, a mega and a stag. looks like i'll be looking at a ton of pictures here, at calguns.net,and AR15.com just to finalize my plans. thanks to all for the ideas, too bad my wallet wont be as grateful.

I just brought my first AR build to the range today..

I LOVE IT.

Spike's Tactical "INFIDEL" lower, J&T Dissapator kit..

After sighting in, I put a FULL mag into 4" at 50 yards (indoor range, nothing longer) rapid fire, which was FUN..

Accuracy. I will guess at 2-3MOA. Need to get on a longer range to know for sure.

ZERO problems with the build, or function.

Did I mention I LOVE IT!
