What Was Your Very First Gun? Toy? BB? Real Gun? How old when you got it?

Scotter, I really like your story. The ability to feed yourself and your family when in tight economic spots for the price of a bullet and some fuel for cooking is one of the things that I really think are great about owning a firearm. I have a friend that found himself in tough times during college and managed to stay fed on squirrel meat thanks to his .22. I don't know much about hunting but I think it would be great to set up an organization that donates excess meat from the season's kills to disadvantaged people.

I suppose my very first gun was a cheap little lever action BB gun. I forgot the make and model of it though. I must have been about 12. I made some poor decisions with it (read: nonsensical) though and got it taken away. lol

my first gun was a daisy model 25.when iwas4 my grandfather bought me then at 6 i got a marlin .22 he died when i was 7 and my brother and i got all his guns

wen i was 3, my dad got me a New England Arms Pardner series .410 single shot shotgun. I killed many rabits, squirels, armadillos, and nuetra rats with it in Louisiana

1st gun: I saved up and bought myself a browning .22 lever-action when I was 14.

2nd gun: I bought myself a S&W .38 snub-nose when I was around 15.

Here is a pick of me ca. 1952. I'm not sure what the cap gun was and I don't remember it. When I was 6 yo. my Uncle Jack gave me a Fanner Fifty and wished I still had it.

My first gun was a Red Ryder BB gun when I was 9 I believe. Then for my 13th birthday I got a pellet gun which I put a ten dollar scope on and taught myself how to zero it against coke cans and the like. Finally when I was 15 I recieved my first true firearm for christmas, a Beretta 391 Urika.

My mom was against guns when I was a child and my dad wasn't a hunter. The only gun we had in the house when I was young was an old .357...that never got used in the 18 years that I lived at home. My buddies would come over and I'd use their BB guns and pellet guns, but I never had my own.

My first gun was a Glock 21 and an Rem. 870...at the age of 31! When I got my Masters from college, my folks gave me $1000 gift and said, "This is for the guns you've always wanted." I was shocked, partly because my folks are poor, and because my mom hated guns. I was at the gun store the next day. I knew exactly what I wanted with a budget of $1000.

I now talk to my folks about guns quite often, and believe it or not, my folks are now pro guns. My mom, 60 somthing, target shoots with the old .357.:D

Scotter,

I truly hope you can impress the importance of the memories and history of that gun to whomever you give it. That is a true family heirloom that any kid should relish and admire its importance in the lives of those who have handled it. Kudos to you for that piece of your history and thank you for a great first post. Welcome to the site.

I was about 5 or 6 when I got my first cap pistols. No Greenie-Stickum caps, these were the cheapie red roll Bang Caps. The guns wore out real quick as I didn't then have the cleaning habits I now possess. Guns wore out but caps were a dime a dozen, and you could always hit them with a hammer. If you could find a chump to hold your ears.:D Then came Monkey equipment. Kinda looked like ray guns and such, but they were a big hit and even had helmets with camo attached. Close on the heels of these was the Wasp. A snub-nosed revolver, it used red plastic blanks that fit on the "chambers" of the cylinder. It was a bit louder than regular caps and the waste was not bio-degradeble. Sigh. Later came the Cobra. A pistol that shot navy beans or popcorn rather well. Far more state-of-the-art than a pea-shooter and we looked down our noses at the pea-tube crowd. Would be seen as more dangerous than real guns now. At about 9 or so I received a Sonic Blaster. In the words of Ralphie, the greatest Christmas gift I had ever received or would ever receive. 5 or 6 pumps, shoulder it, pull the trigger, and this bazooka-like gun rewarded you with a 137 dB blast. For this, it was deemed a bad toy by Consumer Reports; luckily my mom and dad didn't see the report. I did notice that it didn't last very long on the market, and I was the only one that I ever new that had one. It probably contributed to the hearing loss I now have, but then so did real guns, later. Didn't matter to me as I had some great years with that thing. From that, it was on to real guns, specifically a .22 bolt rifle. I also got a Sheridan 5 mm pump pellet rifle, and a Crosman M1 carbine BB gun, but that was after the .22.

My first toy gun was a black molded plastic M-16 that made the ratchety "rat-a-tat" sound every time the trigger was squeezed. Shortly after that, my dad gave me a toy Luger that was cast aluminum with brown plastic grips that resembled wood. The top of the "Luger" flipped open so a roll of paper caps could be loaded and ready to fire. None of those toys had a stupid orange plastic tip either. My first BB gun was a Crosman that required one pump to charge. The pump was done via the barrel which was pulled inward telescopically.

First gun I had was a Crosman 760. Got it back in the early 70's when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I shot the hell out of that thing for years. A single shot .22 was my first firearm. I think I was 9 or 10 when I got that. A Remington 870 20 gauge pump was my first shotgun at age 12.

I'm proud to say I still have all three guns, even though the seals are shot on that Crosman 760. I wonder if I can get that rebuilt...

I got my first gun from Toys R' Us. I was still in preschool at the time so I was probably 4? I remember back in the good ol days they had an entire isle dedicated to toy guns. They had a rack full of lever action rifles. Every time you worked the lever and pulled the trigger it would make a "pop" sound. They were made out of metal and it had a plastic stock. None of that orange tip non-sense either. Needless to say, that was the first "gun" I ever received. Since then, I've been shooting since I was about 5 and picked up my first rifle on the day I turned 18.

I got a Daisy BB rifle at 6 years old. It's well used now, so Daisy will get it back soon for a refurb. The grandson is now 5, and he is one year from getting it.

BSA Scorpion break barrel airpistol in .22, age 8 or 9 I think.

Man, I shot up every can for a hundred miles in any direction with that thing....

The most fun was the ballistic darts which would get so stuck in the backboard you would shear the metal apart getting them out, leaving it studded with dart heads.

Crosman BB Scout when I was about 12. The bird population in the area went down significantly shortly thereafter, never could stay focused on just cans.

My first real firearm was a Springfield 1898 Krag rifle given to me my Grandpa when I was 14. Oddly enough I didn't own a .22 until I was an adult but I had a huntin' rifle and a shotgun during most of my teens.

Got my Red Ryder BB Gun on my 5th Birthday, had already started shoot a .22 with my dad. Shot my first shot gun at 7, (pa's old 12ga, which about knocked me down) dad gave me my own .22 at 9, Nylon 66 .22. I started taking it out alone on our farm alone right after I got it. He got me a single shot 12ga when I was about 10. Dad gave me my first pistol at 12 (Browning Buckmark), and I got him to trade it for my first center fire pistol, a S & W model 10 38spl with a 4 inch barrell and a model 60 Marlin .22. I killed my first deer at 12 with my Grandpa's 1903 30-06. He passed away that next summer, and I got it when he passed.

My first was a set of ROY ROGERS cap pistol six shooters with cheap leather holsters and gun belt with plastic like bullets . That was back in 1945 at the end of the 2nd world war. I was eight at the time .When i was ten i got a red ryder bb lever action gun . ( I wonder what became of them ?) I was lucky being a city kid .

Wow, I remember the gun isle at Toy R Us. Still makes me smile. I don't know hoe many toy guns I had, but I had enough of them that we could have different era of wars with the proper equipment.

Then I had a crossman 760 I think. I don't know many squirells went down in the line of duty.

I can't remember how old I was the first time I went shooting, I think around 7 or 8. Shot .22's and a .410.

My first real gun was a 1891 Mosin Nagant that I got for Christmas when I was 11. It was almost as long as I was tall and I had to rest the fore end on something so I could shoot it. And yes I still have it.
