Greeting's All-

Just for fun, I thought it would be interesting too see what your response
to this question would be if you happened to become a LEO next week?
All you RETIRED LEO's that have been there and done that can chime in
as well, since the ever changing world of new technology has come full
circle; even in the firearms industry. Also, I would like to hear from all
future LEO's, regarding this subject. BTW, I have recently sold a rash
of 1911's to ROOKIES, that came into our shop with their minds already
made up. Most of them preferred the Kimber TLE's (with and without the
rails), or the weapons from Kimbers Tactical series. Please give some type
of explanation for your choice of this primary duty weapon.

I will get things rolling, by choosing MY favorite the .45 ACP SIG-SAUER
P220A.

Desert Eagle .50

Actually, that was the smart aleck answer. I'd probably carry my S&W Commander 1911, with the Kimber Ultra Carry or a Hi Power as a backup.

I would want an STI Eagle in 40, some mild upgrades.

I like 40, I like the 1911ish platform, I shoot them well, STI makes a great gun, and 19 round +1 capacity should handle anything that might come up with just 2 mags on the belt.

I would take a G22 without reservation though.

My choice would be whatever everyone else was carrying. i always felt that this was important. if it is uniform and an officer goes down in a bas suituation another officer can use his weapon or his ammo. As to my personal choice for what it would be...I would have to say I am quite fond of my new Kimber .45 ACP pro carry II. it is very light weight but recoils quickly and is ready for another shot. Also it seems to be very accurate as far as autos go (not really an auto expert though).

a lot of Excedrin

....Oh. You meant GUNS :neener: Although I expect the Excedrin would get more usage:rolleyes:

Well, as an LEO I wouldn't be stuck doing concealed carry, so I could carry my XD openly; and that's what I'd have. XD-40. And my S&W 37 as my BUG.

Golly. What I carry anyway, only I wouldn't have to figure how to conceal the 40!

1911 - I'm more interested in making shots count than the sheer number of them. I'd prefer a Les Baer or Kimber Gold Combat.

When I was a LEO, about a hundred years ago, we could only carry the issue 38 Special.

We were required to be armed off duty but could carry anything. I bought a S&W 2 inch Model 10 for off duty carry.

Would love to carry my series one Kimber .45ACP but its a "Classic Gold Match". Not really a carry gun. Match gun with too tight tolerances. Can't afford another Kimber so......

Spingfield XD 40. Power, Looks (better than Glock), Safety sytems, and.... of ya, Reliable!

Hi Dan :)

For me it would in fact be my daily carry for over a year now - my SIG 226 ST. I am like you a SIG guy and would have no wish to change my gun!

I would feel as happy with the 228 ofcourse and next tothat would be my own 220 - none of these would leave me feeling disadvantaged ;)

If you are a Sig guy answer me this...What would you suggest as a first SIG for someone? Keep in mind I like stainless finish and steel or alloy handles.

Are you a new shooter? What caliber?

Go for the SIG P220ST (.45 ACP) or the SIG P226ST (9mm). Its all steel so the heavier weight will help reduce recoil. Both are great guns, but they weight close to a 1911.

Thanks for the advice. I am not a new shooter. I will check out the 9mm tomorrow since I am in the market for one. I like to try different manufacturers. Any idea what one should run price wise?

The SIG firearms are great pistols. For price, I haven't priced one out, but I just checked sportingarms, and they have the P220ST and P226ST listed at $800. Sporting Arms is usually lower than what youd find in a gunstore, so I'd say you'd find a P226ST at the gunstore for around $850 - $900.

Good luck.

Jeepers...that one might have to wait until I can sell another house. Unless I can find a good deal or I just fall in love with it enough to do without something else like food or heat.

I would take my LW Loaded 1911 from Springfield. Light, reliable, and competent. I have always thought it would make an excellent duty weapon for an LEO. If I couldn't carry it, I would go for a Sig, XD, or (gasp) Glock, but I would want some serious range time with them first.

I'd carrry the handgun that has never malfunctioned for me and the one that I shoot best - the Glock 23, with a Taurus 450 on my left ankle for a BUG.

Please give some type of explanation for your choice...
Depends where a LEO was stationed actually! Being a cop in Vermont, for example, would probably mean your firearm would never leave leather in its entire history, while being in Los Angeles or Miami means you need some sort of belt-fed ammunition dispenser! And that would dictate which weapon I carried if a law enforcement officer... There are towns in Connecticut that have never had a homocide and the worst crime they face is a break-in at a mansion... while District of Columbia officers scream about getting bullet-proof glass in their police cruisers... Location, location, location.

Firearm use is dictated by environment!

I would carry what I carry now.....

A Steyr S40 and a Kel Tec 3AT..............I have NEVER felt comfortable carrying a cocked and locked pistol.........chris3
