What would you change if you had Open Carry?

Hawk man I like your thinking, course being from GP you are just doen the road a piece. I really only have 1 OWB holster and its for a revolver so I guess I'd be carrying my Royal Blue 1982 Colt Python.

No shame in OC that, a colt Python auto qualifies as a court/BBQ gun.

I can carry my Glock 30 or 1911 in my SmartCarry, and be fully concealed wearing only a swim suit.

However, it's a tricky holster to draw from quickly, and though I CAN carry a 1911 in it, I'd look like I was nursing a hernia as I got up and sat down.

So, if OC became legal, I'd OC the 1911 if I carried it, though I'd be more likely to buy a Glock 21 (13 rounds instead of 8). I might even consider OCing a Glock 34 or 35 (more rounds per magazine, more accurate).

That would open lots of great options. My first thought was "Garand", but that would get a bit heavy lugging it around all day. :D Maybe a 30-30. ;)

On the smaller front, probably my MilSpec 1911, thinking realistically. However, the Makarov or CZ-52 with the leather flap holsters would look pretty neat in my book. All aged leather, complete mystery...hmmm. And no, I obviously don't have an acceptable BBQ gun. :(

Interesting! I don't think I've ever seen that holster system before. Is it comfortable?

It's not bad. I can keep my Glock 30 there under any clothing, and it is DEEPLY concealed. You seriously can be fully concealed under just a baggy swim suit. (Sorry, ladies, I don't think it'll work for bikini carry.)

It's comfortable enough that I can forget it's there. I'd highly recommend practicing drawing from it A LOT. It's a slower holster than most, but great if you're wearing shorts and a t-shirt, and want a full-sized handgun concealed.

old style.

look at all the open carry threads. everyone is carrying some kind of autoloader. usually a small one. Heck for that fact. How many people do you see walking around with 16" revolvers. That would be me especially in the state of texas. i imagine on some days i would walk the streets with a pair of 1851's Butts forward. the way it was meant to be.

Still my CC - the Sig 230, in a nice OWB leather holster that would go with daytime professional / business attire.

Of course, that would require my employer changing the rules first.

Outside of professional situations, whatever took my fancy at the moment.

CC'ed a G30 and S&W640 before (the 640 tend to set off all the store burglery detectors, tho!). Shopping for an XD9sc or G26 for CC.

IF we get OC, (that's a big if, and the OC petition has stalled a few weeks ago) it'd probably still be the XD or G26 simply because they're small and light, but I'd consider a Rock Island Armory commander or CZ of some flavor.

With open carry, there are two of my guns I'd at least fantasize about carrying :)

1) Witness Elite Match (.45 ACP) -- For guys who are 300lbs and 6'9", this may be easy to conceal. I'm strictly average size, and no dice.

2) S&W 625. Just because it's both beautiful and accurate -- but not much of a pocket pistol.

On the other hand, this would depend on just how much more comfortable open carry turned out to be; a lighter gun would be more comfortable, I'd think, and require less clothing change.

Amazing, just amazing. You folks have guns that you haven't figured out how to conceal. My state has OC, I still CC and my usual CC is a full size .357 in a shoulder rig under a very lightweight carry vest. I'd bet with a little effort, most of you could figure out a way to carry the guns you want too.

I could CCW an RPG if I wore a parka. Just achieving concealment is easy.

The tricky part comes when you want to conceal and be comfortable (or at least not keel over from heat exhaustion).

I used to live where I could not OC (or CCW) in CA. Then I moved to Vegas where technically it's OK to OC but I never did - I stuck with concealed carry. Now I live in a town where OC is perfectly acceptable and I still haven't tried it - I conceal all the time. So to answer your question, it hasn't changed anything for me but the option is there.

If we had OC, I'd be a happy camper.

This is because I generally don't dress in clothes that lend themselves to CC. T-shirt and shorts mostly.

I'd probably go with something like a .38spl with a 2" barrel. I shoot those reasonably well at paper. They're light, and with a decent bullet like a 158gr XTP or something ought to be sufficient for SD.

Light and small is the order of the day for me. I hate carrying my keys and wallet, let alone a pistol.

Well, we do have open carry in Colorado... sorta if you stay out of the densely-populated zones.

If it were more "common practice," I'd shift over to revolvers rather than slab-sided somewhat more concealable autos.

Rarely do I OC (mainly for 2a functions or competitions) but whe I do it's the same as when I carry concealed. Commander sized 1911 strongside w/ carrylok holster, and two spare mags. Even though it is legal in MN, I'm not, however, comfortable carrying openly on a daily basis.

I open carry a Sig P229 or a Springfield XD 45 ACP. The stainless steel XD magazines attract a LOT more attention than blackened magazines.

In my case I dress nicer, if I haven't shaved that day I don't open carry. I also go out of my way to be nice, approachable and smile. If I'm planning on open carrying I'll use a retention holster but I also OC in my CCW holster occasionally.

I hope you get open carry, it is uncomfortable for a bit but it is a great experience and wonderful opportunity to educate.

Here in Ohio we have open carry, although every once in a while you have to sue the cops to remind them.

I'm probably never going to open carry, but if I did, I'd carry my 4" S&W Model 29-2 with .44 Special Blazer Gold Dots.
