I have a choice make between a Beretta 92fs or PX4. Any opinions of which would be best? Both are too big to carry, so it will be a range gun and house protection. Thanks for your opinions.

I have both.
For the purpose you plan on using it, it'd go with the 92FS unless for some reason it just doesn't fit your hand.
Better accuracy.
Simpler maintenance.
Proven track record.

I also have had both and personally I liked the way the 92fs feels more than the Px4. The 92 series has always fit my hand well and there is nothing that compares to the feel of racking a 92 series slide. However there is just something about he 92 that I have always loved and the Px4 I just could fall in love with no matter how hard I tried. The 92 is certainly a beast and when it comes to carry I would choose the Px4 over the 92. I do like the trigger better on the Px4 and its a really nice shooting gun. Still I can't dislike the 92 series and refuse to say the Px4 is better or worse. If I had to choose between the two and carry wasn't a concern then I would go with the 92fs but that's just me.

Good luck with your decision!

I've owned both; sold the PX4 simply because the 92fs fit my hand better. Personal preference goes to 92fs. If it's a devoted home defense gun, something to consider is that the PX4 can accomodate a tactical light if that's what puts the zip in your doodah.

If you have other members of the household who may be using it in its home defense roll get them to handle both and see if any differences that make no difference to you makes a difference to another co-user. :)

Just sold my PX4 for ANOTHER 92FS. Fits my hand better then the PX and I have finally admitted that I don't really like plastic guns. The PX was very nice, but it didn't give me the "Oh yeah" feeling I get when I handle a 92. For carry, I have a S&W j frame or 3913.

Check out the Beretta 90-Two while you are at it as well...

It is basically a revamped version of the 92FS. Has fewer parts, quicker assembly and disassembly and can be had from the factory with night sights... a first for beretta if I am not mistaken.

I only pick plastic guns for carry because of weight issues. For HD/range, where weight is no issue, I prefer metal.
Plastic is proven to work, and work well. But metal is proven to LAST.

Without question, the Px4 has the better trigger. But the safety levers are smaller. That's good for concealment, bad for fast use, should you carry "on safe".

Fit to the hand is a very personal choice.

The Px4 is mighty simple internally, I don't see how somebody can consider the 92 as more simple to strip and reassemble.

And the recoil just seems softer in the Px4 (and the Cougar), compared to the 92.

i don't like 92's. the px4 fit my hand good and pointed well for me, so i bet you could guess which i would go for. i think this is a preference thing. what ever you want.
