It would depend on what 'Brady II' entails. Is this some legislation up for discussion at the moment or is this more akin to the whole UN gun-grabbing thing?

EDIT: Just for ish and giggles, I did some searching around: http://www.hackcanada.com/blackcrawl/patriot/brady_ii.txt

Everything I can find points to past legislation that since has died. I don't see anything recent on anything new happening with 'Brady II'

I wouldn't have a choice, since the workers and peasants of the Democratic People's Republic of California know about my guns.

I'm pretty sure, though, that when that day comes, I'll be somewhere else ;)

All .45 caliber handgun ammunition is outlawed (Title IV Section 401 relating
to paragraph G). [The bill text actually outlaws handgun ammunition greater
than .45" in diameter; .45 caliber ammunition has a diameter of .451" or
.452".]

Woah there, cowboys!

They aren't seriously aiming for the .45, are they?

That's suicide, so many people will be 'extremely upset', to put it nicely.

Given that Brady II is nothing more than a Right-Wing conspiracy theory and that the United Nations has zero say about what happens in this country, I'm not going to bother anwering.

My relatives gave up their guns, hoping to appease the government in Germany.
Most of them died, though some escaped.

I wholeheartedly hope this never comes to pass In my heart of hearts, I cannot believe it would. If it did, At that point, I'll have to decide if I need to leave my beloved country, or stay and fight for my rights. I am not honestly sure what I'll do, but I know I will not end up disarmed like my relatives.

If you went back 75 years and told the Americans then what gun laws we have on the books now, I'm sure they would call it a "conspiracy theory," too.
As for the U.N. it may not have anything to say directly; but the greatest danger is our own politicians' willingness to go along with the U.N. game. If the Democrats take control, and we get a demo pres in '08, they'll be happy to go along with a UN gun grab via a treaty.
As for what I will do?
Read my signature line...and take a wild guess........ :D

As the old adage has it, they can have my guns when they pry them from my cold dead hands. Being able to possess firearms is pretty central to being a man at liberty, i.e., a nonslave/nonserf. Many thousands died securing and defending that liberty for me. It's the least I can do in return.

DKSuddeth's signature: "The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the 'High Powers' delegated directly to the citizen by the United States Constitution, Amendment II....A law cannot be passed to infringe upon it or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the law-making power." - Texas Supreme Court Decision, Cockrum vs State of Texas, ---- 1859
[Pessimism]Great quote, but keep in mind that this decision was made under the Constitution of the nation established by the Founding Fathers. That nation was overthrown in the 1860s by Honest Abe Lincoln and company, and replaced by another totally hostile to its ideals. Our present nation's Centennial celebration should have been celebrated in 1965. The national government founded in 1789 never reached its centennial. That court case, therefore, has no more authority in modern law than court decisions made in the colonial period.[/Pessimism]

If it was a all out gun ban.. I would find a group of people willing to use the guns for what Thomas Jefferson said. To keep your self free of tyranny.

If I had any guns, I would hide them. Of course understanding how dangerous they are I would never keep any around anyway. You never know when they might conspire against me and ambush me when I'm coming home from having coffee with the guys in the morning.

So, is there any information about this supposed mega-threat?

Specific information, right now? No. But if you doubt it's coming, you're (no offense intended) a fool.

The Democratic Party has "gun control" as one of its' planks. They've had to stop talking about it for a while, but they're still thinking about it. Even a lot of "pro gun" Democrats are merely realists... they know that the duck and deer hunters in their districts have a huge influence, so their "reasonable" gun control is much more mild than that espoused by the urban fringe-extremist liberal Democrat.

The whole idea of the "nanny state" and the private ownership of firearms are absolutely antithical to each other. An armed man is a free man, and a free man does not need Big Brother to watch his every move or provide cradle-to-grave care. Conversely, an armed man can say "No", and that's absolutely unacceptable in a Socialist society. If one person can opt-out of the ruinous taxation and stultifying regulation, then someone else will want out, too. And another. And another. Until there's nothing left but the leeches. That's why the Berlin Wall was built. That's why the Soviet Union and Red China conducted such massive "purges", to stamp out every hint of individualism and send a clear message, "This is what happens when you don't toe the line"

And, frankly, I doubt the Republican Party is much better. Neo-conservatism has us on a path to outright Fascism... "the war on <insert appropriate phrase here>" demands just as stringent control of a population. And such tight control over society is antithical to a free market and an armed populace. Sooner or later, people get tired of producing their papers, removing their belt and shoes, and going through armed checkpoints. If they're unarmed, the most they can do is grumble... quietly, lest Those In Power should chance to hear them.

There will be another national "assault weapon" ban introduced. It could very well be defeated. They'll try again, and again, and again, until it passes and is signed. Then they'll move forward again. And again. And again. It isn't a question of "if"... it's a question of "when". Maybe not in our lifetimes... but I wouldn't bet on it, as I have (hopefully) another good 50+ years to go.

Personally, I feel Brady II as it was originally written is deader than toast. But I agree with the premise that if the Democrats come to power, it will only get worse. Brady Bill EX +Alpha v2! :(

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't get as many negative posts as I thought and that is good. I know polls such as this can ruffle a few feathers.

jnojr, man you and I think a lot alike on this subject. I really liked your reply.

If a ban was enacted and confiscation was comming, I'd join a violent movement and fight until we win or I die.

Call me an internet commando if you want but I believe too strongly in an after life and god to give a damn what happens to me here. It's either I'm a free person or we're going to have problems and that's just the way it is.:fire:

Right now, I would probably let them have a couple. The rest would be strategically saved.

30 years from now? I'll be a lot older and crotchety. After I hit 60 I think I'd be a lot more willing to go down in a blaze of glory for what I believe in than dying a slave to PC in a hospital bed.

Who knows. Why worry about it now... I've got stuff to do.

they can have my guns once i run out of ammo

Oh i forgot to mention that in 5.56 alone, i got cans with a total of 1500 rounds of Q3131 for a rainy day.
