What would you do?

Yeah, she's frugal . we have 2 daughters under 3 years old and she's really just looking out for their future as well as our own. I might get away with a little but not a lot - she handles all the finances and I have more guns than she thinks I could ever need (40 +/-) so she is right.

Negotiate: I will only add one gun a year. But if I'm willing to get rid of one of my existing guns to get another...

Ah, well, just had to throw it out there anyway. Sounds more reasonable with context. :)

A good portion of the nicer guns in my collection are from buddies who have purchased a nice firearm then a year or two later have decided they want something else. They will see something they want at a gun show, try to work a deal trading in a gun and I tell them I will give them what ever the gun dealer will give them in trade in. Once a buddy was going to trade in a couple nice heavy barreled Remington target special rifles in .308 and .223 to a car dealer as a down payment on a car. I told him I would give him a $100 more and a year to buy them back from me if he so desired. I paid a ridiculously low price for them and still have them many years later... my buddy was fine with the deal and happy that I ended up with them instead of the used car dealer.

Wow Obturation, did you get my post pulled?

I thought I took the high road, merely saying "skillset".

If you did then you better stay out of climbing forums. They are much rougher than this place.

(note to self; don't bother to effort another post to the closing of a hole)
?
You lost me completely .

That has always been an option, I can pull from what I have for trading or sell and use the money any way I want. Trouble is I have some regrets from deals in the past and what I have left is all guns I flat out won't part with or guns that have little monetary value so selling several guns isn't a fair deal to buy one. Yep, I've got some farmer guns (or whatever guys call them currently), some are sentimental and others beaters that serve a specific role - not much demand for bolt action 410 shotgun in well used condition or a rimfire marlin single shot youth Rifle that has been bored out for shotshell use. You get the idea, it has taken years to get my best guns . I've bought and sold a lot in the past . the tough part is the ones I haven't shot in years that are valuable I know one day I would regret selling.
My current trajectory is good I think, I haven't "needed" any other guns in over a decade so it's all for fun at this point anyway. Life is good.

Huh? I’m not sure I understand what happened...

If you want rough, go to 24 Hour Campfire. No monitoring, self-policing Wild West.

My first wife was a drama queen, my second wife is a female me. She would tell me we will eat ramen if we have to.
Go Get the FA.

I didn't even see a post @Koroner is referring to. Either way, I'm not thin skinned nor do I care what strangers on the internet say or think about me. Like I said, lost me completely. We're friends here , keep the drama it's completely wasted on me.

FME.......While I have bought nice guns that I happened across as a too good to be true price, I have never let them be a replacement for something I really wanted. If finances dictated I had to wait to get both, than so be it. If finances dictated I'd have to wait longer than I wanted to for what I really wanted, the "deal" gun was either passed up, or bought and resold for a profit. Sometimes in life we have to make tough choices. The nice thing here in the U.S., is that we have choices when it comes to firearms.

I made it a rule to not discuss my purchases of guns with my wife. That's my collection not hers. If she tried to influence my purchases then I have same right to influence hers. It's a one way street on that. As long as you keep a roof, food, bills and all up then get what you want. Man child or Husband? I demand latter! IMO.

My guns have actually proved to be fair investments, so 1 per year would hold me back.

But people think I'm a little crazy (I bought 100 shares of Boeing this morning).

Post #32 says it's yours if you want it. No brainer if it was me. A 10" FA in 454 for $700. Hell yea! The pic you posted wasn't all that great, but from what I can see, it looks to be in very nice condition. The BFR will be there for another time. This deal, likely not. Like you, I lusted for a FA, but thought I'd never own one.Now I have two. They are the jewels in my collection. When opportunity presents itself, take advantage of it if you can

And your wife is correct. Taking care of family financially is wayyyy more important than a gun hobby.

Tuckerdog1.

Sometimes it helps to be a little crazy. Grandpa bought 100 shares of Coca Cola in 1933.

Very Very nice.....as far as getting rid of those Pachmayr grips (Thats what they look like anyway, I could be wrong about that) but I think they look good and will come in handy protecting your knuckle from trigger guard slap from that plow handle grip...:D. That sure is a beautiful gun , congrats.

I bought my first FA 454 many many years ago and it is still a great gun. Then I bought a 2nd and then a 3rd and then, all great . You will enjoy and you got a GREAT deal.

Congrats! What a steal! Glad it worked out for you in the end.

I do need to get rid of those grips. Any suggestions?

For the sake of resale value, don’t get rid of them — replace them if you want, but don’t throw them away. They’re original to the gun. The Field Grade guns used to come standard with those rubber grips, not the rosewood grips. And when my Premier Grade .454 is spinning around and slicing up my shooting hand, I sometimes wish I had a pair of those old Field Grade grips.

They're a bit out of shape and not looking too hot. I would like something that looks a bit nicer but they're functional. I looked around some and found out there really isn't much aftermarket support on these guns, I kind of expected it. Overall very happy with it. The grips will have to stay for now, I may just bite the proverbial bullet and have freedom arms fit a set unless I find something nice for cheaper. I don't think I'll get it to the range for a couple weeks, I'm not in a huge hurry. Just glad I got it, I've got forever to fine tune the details.
