If you were two choose of the following types, what would your specific choices be?

.22 LR long gun
.22 LR handgun
Magnum rimfire rifle

This is something I'll be working toward establishing over the next few years. My uses will be small game hunting and non-competition target shooting.

Mine are

.22 LR long gun- Savage MkIIG
.22 LR handgun-Ruger MkII
Magnum rimfire rifle- Savage 93FVSS bull barreled

The two long guns have Accutrigers and are extremely accurate.

1. Ruger 10-22. Nice rifle right out of the box for small game hunting and target shooting. Sky is the limit if you want to mod it later.

2. Ruger MKII or III if you like semi auto's. Ruger has a "Single10" revolver out now that might be of interest.
Ruger also has a model that has 22lr and 22mag cylinders. If your out with your 22lr rifle of choice, take along the 22lr cylinder. 22mag rifle and a simple swap of cylinders gives you 22mag.

3. If I were to pick up a rifle chambered in 22mag for hunting and informal target shooting, I would look at the Henry levers.

Same as above except I would choose a Ruger 10-22 semi-automatic for the .22 LR long gun. There is a world of aftermarket accessories for it as well as highly accurate barrels and drip in target grade triggers. It could double as a weapon in an emergency allowing you to pump multiple shots into a bad guy. It also serves well as a fun plinker or for high volume varmit shooting.

.22LR long gun: Colt or S&W AR style .22
.22LR hand gun: Ruger Charger
Magnum rimfire Rifle: Marlin or savage bolt action

Choices of three gun rimfire battery

What is your budget? Are you interested in a true target rifle? Either a Ruger semi or revolver is a good choice. I think I would get a Ruger covertible 22/22 mag. Of course if you are going to target shoot the pistol you will probably want a semiauto. The last 22 target rifle I shot was a model 52 Winchester and I know nothing after that regarding current target rifles.

Budget? Since I just purchased a Glock 20, it's currently $0 USD:D Hopefully that will change over the next year.

I don't really need a target rifle as most of the shooting I will be doing will be off hand.

Right now:
Ruger 10/22 (customized for me by me)
Ruger mkIII (customized for me by me)
Henry lever frontier, with nicer sights added on (easier with the frontier models)
(don't have the Henry in .22mag yet, it is on the list after a PMR-30 appears)

Or in a dream world:
RMR-30 (with .22lr conversion)
PMR-30 (with .22lr conversion)
RMR-30
All from Kel-Tec, all vaporware at this point (I've seen one PMR-30 in person so far)

Or in wild-west world:
Henry lever carbine (I have this one)
Unknown maker (NAA?) SA break-top revolver (don't have yet)
Henry lever frontier (still don't have yet)

.22 LR rifle: Remington Sportking. I love mine. Or an AR with a .22 upper...

.22LR handgun: I'd probably get a revolver like the single six that has seperate cylinders so i could shoot either .22LR or .22 Mag

.22Mag - I like the idea of the henry lever gun in .22 mag.

For the rifles .22lr CZ and .22 WMR Ruger 77/22 MK II v-bolt
For the Handgun I would go with the S&W mod 41 or an Olympic High Standard.

Some will prefer the Anschultz $10k line up but not me

.22 rifle = Remington 541T or CZ 452 American
.22 handgun = Browning Buckmark Plus

Probably not what you were thinking, but my .22 mag rifle is a 1964 vintage Savage 24 E/DL in .22 WMR over a 20 gauge. Very accurate and versatile hunting gun, albeit a bit heavy.

I'd have no need for a MRF rifle once I already had a LR one, which I do (Ruger 10/22.)
So, the remaining two pieces in my .22 rimfire trio would probably be the Ruger Mk-II I also already own, and the Kel-Tec PMR-30.
If you still insisted I pick a MRF rifle and also that I have only three rimfire guns total, than I might give up the KT for a lever-action .22WMR, but I don't know offhand who makes a good one (Henry, or Marlin?))

.22 LR long gun -- Kimber M82. Alternate choices would be a Springfield M1922, a Ruger M77/22 or a Kimber K-22.

.22 LR handgun -- Colt Woodsman. Alternate choices would be a Colt Officers Model Target or a Ruger MK II.

Magnum rimfire rifle -- Kimber M82. Alternate choice would be a Kimber K-22M or a Ruger M77/22M.

Bonus -- Kimber M82 in .22 Hornet.

Being a life long fanatic of the humble .22 rim fire, I'd just keep on using what I already do use.

For the .22 handgun, my 4 inch Smith and Wesson 617 with 10 shot cylinder.

.22 rifle would be my old Marlin 39 lever action. I've had this rifle for 40 years, and it's never let me down. Has a Williams receiver sight to help out old eyes.

For a .22 mag rifle, I'd stay with Marlin, and make it a bolt action.

That battery should do for whatever.

22 Rifle Marlin 60
22 Pistol Ruger MKII
22 Mag Marlin bolt

Somebody has been good to me as I have 3 rifles and a pistol.
A Ruger SA Convertible revolver (.22 LR & Mag cylinders), ;)
a Ruger 10/22 Carbine, :)
a Marlin 881 .22 LR bolt gun,
and a Marlin 983 .22 Mag bolt gun.

Eventually, I will also inherit a Marlin Glenfield .22 LR.
:D

We have a couple ruger mkIII with trigger jobs and a couple ruger 10/22 that are customized . My 22mag is a savage /stevens .223. no use for a 22mag ether.

Get a ruger mrII or III and do a trigger job to it. Good shooters with a 2 lb trigger.
Get a older all metal 10/22 and send the barrel and trigger group to Clark Customs and let them do ther magic.
For a 22mag Or better get a 17hmr, buy one of savage bolt versions that fits your buget

No one likes a K-22, Hammerli, High Standard? Or an Anschutz 54? Or a Remington 54T-HB?

Forget the 10/22 unless you want to completely rebuild the gun - for that, start off right with a higher quality gun

One mentioned, and you should also consider, one of the .17's.
