What's a good price for a used BHP?

Hey y'all,

What do you folks think is a good price for a used Browning Hi Power?

I don't have a specific model number, but it's an older model, non-adjustable sights, ring hammer, and is in about 85% condition.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I think I really need one.

A picture would help greatly. Is it FN/Browning? What you describe would cost around $450-500 at the least. Even used, the BHP's are not cheap.
Also - does it come with any magazines or accessories?

It is a true Browning Hi Power, and this is the only picture I have, sorry.

Your pic is of an early (internal extractor) High Power. It's not very desireable as a self defense peice today, as the safety catch is small and the sights are small - Not to mention the internal extractor which was redesigned to external in early 1962.

Prices on used Hi Powers that are just run of the mill guns should be driven down somewhat as Copes imported a ton of FN mfgr'd Hi Powers and have been selling them off for between $350 and $500 on GB.

I'd use those prices as guide...

The big $$$ on used Hi Powers is reserved for "T" Series guns and MKIII "Practical" models.

FN mfgr'd Hi Powers

All Hi-Powers are manufactered by FN. Some of them are rollmarked for sale by Browning, in the U.S. (mostly). The FN-marked and Browning-marked HP's are the same gun but the Browning versions are generally more nicely finished (polished, nicer grips, etc.)

Browning is the importer, not the maker. Inglis also made a bunch during WWII for use by the Allies; I've had one of those. I have a good-condition T-series BHP, but with a non-factory barrel and a different (gunmith-changed rear sight dovetail/sight). I noticed one day, while cleaning after a range sessions, that the lands in the barrel near the crown were damaged; it didn't seem to shoot differently, but it bothered me. I replaced the factory barrel with an EFK Firedragon barrel.

I know the T-series is considered quite special, but the cost of an original barrel is over $400 -- and spending that much for the barrel didn't make sense to me, given that mine isn't a true "collectible."

The EFK Firedragon barrel dropped right in and actually shoots better than the original barrel did, which surprised me, as the original was accurate.
