What's in danger of being banned?

I know that my priorities have shifted to getting stripped lowers and mags for everything I own and anticipate owning.

I think we do have a little breathing room though, because the Democretins are going to try and entrench their power in '08. Immediate calls for gun legislation would only cause them to lose ground they barely gained back.

When the new legislation is introduced it'll likely be for an AWB II and a ban on .50 BMG rifles. They have lost too much ground on handguns and continue to lose because of CCW in the shall issue states to make handgun restrictions acceptable to the voters.

John Lott thinks they may well try to come after our semi auto guns.

The Brady campaign expects their Dem friends to re new the Clinton AWB. In fact they are gloating on many levels. I hope our fellow gun owning friends who aided in the Democrat victory will stop and reflect on how they have now energized the enemies of the Second Amendment. :cuss: :banghead: :fire:

I also know CDNN was pretty much sold out on High cap mags since the election and there was panic buying at the gun show in Dayton Ohio yesterday.........

From brady website

The Illinois State Legislature should listen, too, and pass a statewide assault weapons ban as requested by 86 percent of the Cook County voters on November 7, 2006. Such action would set an example, too, for the new U.S. Congress.

Yes, let one county speak for your entire state... no your entire nation! :cuss:

First off, I think the AK-47 and weapons like it will be in serious jeapordy. Just go to gunsamerica.com and look up the AK's, several of the dealers are sold out of them, I think there will be a "run" on the AK's, especially after January '07. I'm also keeping my ears peeled for the term "assault weapon ban", so I can stock up on high cap mags for my pistols before it goes into effect.:D

On a good note, the GOP in the Senate still have the filibuster. They only need 41 senators to filibuster, they have 49. I'd bet that if some extremist bill made its way to the Senate that the GOP found repulsive, they would filibuster it and it would go nowhere.

Another point, many of the freshman Democrats are pro-gun, at least that what they stated in their campaigns. John Tester of Montana and Jim Webb of Virginia come to mind. Look what happened earlier this week in the house leadership battle between "Murtha the moron" and Henny Stoyer. Pelosi put her weight behind Murtha and when the vote came down, Murtha got demolished. The freshman Democrats have already demonstrated that they will not get on the left wing extremist agenda train led by Pelosi. She got her butt handed to her on a platter, and rightfully so.!

Redneck with a .40, don't count on the fillibuster. Too many RINOs are still in the Senate quite willing tol betray us I fear. Snowe, Hagel, McCain, etc....are all still there quite prepared to screw the American gun owner. We are going to have to lobby the House and the Senate and the White House to make sure if something does pass that the President vetos it. You can almost hear the press now beating up anyone opposed to an "Assault weapons ban law".

Kids, this is a wake up call. '08 is coming and it is time to find progun canidates to support for House and Senate races. We have two years to prepare. Those of us who are Republicans need to educate our fellow Republicans who are not gun owners that Rudy Guiliani and John McCain are unacceptable to us. If a pollster calls with those two and those two alone on their list as GOP candidates for the Presidency ask for another choice. CNN and other networks are already pushing them. We need to shoot down their candidacies now.

Redneck,

Believe it or not, Murtha is actually a more conservative Democrat than Hoyer. Pelosi supported Murtha because she dislikes Hoyer.

Well...Bush had said in the 2004 election that he was perfectly willing to sign an assault weapon ban if it ever came to his desk...now...it might come to his desk. We shall see if he was just saying that to appease the stupids or if he really, really hates FALs.

a bit off topic?

I emailed FL candidate for Governor, Charlie Crist:

Dear Mr. Charlie Crist,

Before I cast my vote, I wanted to ask you how do you feel about gun
ownership in the state of Florida, and how do you feel about gun
control? I also wanted to ask what do you plan to do to protect our 2nd
amendment rights? Would you fight for Vermont style gun freedom?

Thank You for Your time.

Martin V
Fort Lauderdale, FL

Response:

Thank you for contacting the Charlie Crist campaign with your questions on his stance on gun laws in Florida. Charlie Crist is proud to have recently received an endorsement for his candidacy from the National Rifle Association, due to his record of strong support for law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen.

Charlie Crist is the only candidate for Governor to earn the NRA’s Defender of Freedom Award. As Governor, he will be a steady hand protecting our Second Amendment rights. As Attorney General, Charlie Crist has defended the rights of gun owners, and has stood on the front lines to preserve and protect the freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Thank you again for writing to Charlie Crist's Campaign for Governor. We look forward to receiving your support on Election Day. Please do not hesitate to reply with any further questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Karen Halperin
Deputy Policy Director
Charlie Crist for Governor

What do you feel is more of a "threat" to liberals though? Seems like handguns have been banned in Canada, Australia, the UK and parts of the US. My guess is it's because handguns are easy to conceal compared to an AK47 or AR15
-------------------

It doesn't matter what kind of guns are more pscyhologically intimidating. It doesn't matter which kind of guns are more likely to be used for which purposes (legal or criminal). It doesn't matter how "lethal" the gun is. It doesn't matter whether or not it can penetrate body armor. It doesn't matter whether it can be easily converted to full auto. It doesn't matter whether it is concealable.

The only thing that will determine the target of the next gun ban attempt is their judgement of whether they think they can get public and legislative support for the ban.

If they think they can whip up public and legislative support to ban bb guns, they'll do it (dangerous for kids!).

If they think they can get public and legislative support to ban squirt guns, they'll do it (wastage of natural resources!).

Based on public and legislative support elsewhere, it seems to be easiest to whip up support for banning .50 cal, anything military-looking ("assault weapons"), and handguns - although relatively difficult to whip up support for banning anything their grandpa had (lever guns, bolt guns, shotguns).

Then why hasn't Bush pushed for one????

The fact is he has done NOTHING to help renact the AWB.

Ask Josh Horwitz or Sarah Brady.

Yes the gun banners and Chuck Schumer will try to renact the AWB in some form if not the exact same form as 1993.

They will also push for background checks for ALL gun purchases and handgun limits (no multiple sales) and more checks/regs on gun dealers.

Whether those things PASS is another matter.

I doubt they will do to partisan bickering and obstruction.

Basically their two top priorities:

AWB ban (and may include 50 calibers and all NFA weapons)

Gun trafficking bill with all kinds of restrictions and checks on the selling of a gun
