What's missing from my handgun collection?

goal?

My general criteria is popular calibers and platforms, classic guns, milsurp (WWII and newer), affordable, ammo available, whim and impulse, opportunity.

I started out with the basic .22, 9mm, 45, 357 and built from there. Here's my list:

10mm: Megastar

What am I missing? What is a must have in this type of collection? poppy

So what is your goal? Represent all calibers? Whim, impulse and opportunity make it pretty broad...

I reload. As a reloader, one thinks about getting into a new caliber due to the additional expense of components and tools for reloading. That being said, I reload for 12 or more calibers! I have plenty of different .22s, 9mm, 38 Special, 357 Mag, 10mm, 44 Mag and in rifle I do 308, 30-06, 270,
30 Carbine, 9mm, 338 JDJ#2, 30-40 Krag:banghead:

I opted to get a fairly complete collection of 10mm caliber specific samples since there was a small overall number of variants produced. Since I am a 10mm nut, the one caliber I feel that I've neglected is 41 Magnum, which other posts have also mentioned. Passed on an opportunity to purchase a 41 Mag Desert Eagle last year for under $600. Should have went for it...:cuss:

M92FS
I had a Colt Detective Special once, but I made a trade for a Ruger revolver. I guess I am just a Ruger man when it comes to revolvers.

I do have the Beretta 92FS, I don't exactly know what a M92FS is, unless you are talking about a model gun.

I will have a Sig someday for the right price.

Can't afford the FN, and you S&W guys don't give up. poppy

OK, M92FS, I give up. I followed the link to Beretta, but I still didn't see any M92FS models. Are you talking about those available now for sale in Maryland? Or are you talking about Military/LE? Or what? poppy

As I stated in my original post, I'm looking to represent all popular calibers. You are correct in that my criteria is pretty broad, but I have limits. I also said "affordable." I understand that popular and affordable are in the eyes of the beholder.

For example, a 10 mm is in my collection because there are multiple platforms available, there is a somewhat of a cult following for it (you described yourself as a 10mm nut), I had the opportunity at a gun show to buy a Megastar on the cheap (less than $400), and it was an impulse buy. I will only buy another 10mm if it too meets this criteria.

That would have definitely been tempting for me as well. I buy a lot of used handguns and have never spent more than $565 for one. Most are between $300 and $450.

My overall goal is a moving target. I look for variety but also value. I got in on a fairly early wave of Maks, so I have a nice Russian example. I missed out on a nice East German one though and now they have really escalated in value, lesson learned.

This thread has convinced me to strongly consider a Walther P38/P1. There is a decent supply of imports right now, so I think the affordable opportunity is there. poppy

Nope. I clicked on full:92/96 the first time and saw a series of models, none of which start with the letter M. What am I missing? poppy

Beretta M92FS = Beretta Model 92FS = Beretta M9.
OK, one more time. What is this? http://www.speedytoys.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=40s

Welcome to The High Road. Some of us old codgers like our facts straight. Again, unless I am missing something, your screen name is a toy. An M92FS does not equal a 92FS. You suggested that I get a toy.

I think I now understand your screen name, but maybe you were not aware of the toy model designation.:neener: poppy

I wasn't aware of it either until your suggestion sent me to Google. I'm glad we are now on the same page and FWIW, there is a whole section on air soft guns on another forum that I belong to. poppy
