It seems like everyone is out of stock now. Used to be just a month or so ago that there wasn't a problem finding them.

What is the lowest price you have seen?

Any number of possible reasons. Being an import, it's possible that they come into the country in large batches. They might dry up for a few monthes then be plentiful again. Walthers (real ones, not P22s) are notorius for this. Also, with election day coming up, firearm sales in general are brisk.

2 things happened in addition to what Fishbed said.

1. 99% of all Caracals in the country were recalled. This caused a run on the guns (ironic, I know) because people thought it may be the end of them in the US.

2. One of the big distributors (can't remember which) pulled all of theirs from the dealers due to the recall.

Internet price was around $400. Lowest price I have seen locally was $469 for duty size at LGS. While these are about the best made polymer guns I have seen the possible problem with future availability is exactly why I went with Glock pistol instead.

Once the recall is sorted, they will be available IF they market them effectively. I know this, because I saw more than 100 of them in stock on the site for the largest wholesaler in the US, and they were on two other major wholesaler sites, as well.

The next step is getting us (dealers) to stock them, which requires demand.

Did you try centerfire systems ? They usually had them and the cheapest I know of.

With Glock, M&P, XD, FN, Ruger, CZ,.....out there plus this recall it will take a MIRACLE.

Recall took the breath out of 'em. Glocks had the same "upgrade" (Glock called their "recall" an "upgrade") early on, but the market was not as saturated making recovery easier. We'll see what direction this takes and time will tell. Cheap, unfortunately, will be how they make inroads IMO meaning profit margins will be so low they may be in trouble post-recall costs.

They're backed by the full faith and credit of the United Arab Emirates... I think that's why the pistols are so cheap to begin with. I believe they're subsidized by the UAE.

I don't know, but, I wouldn't be surprised if the import duty on pistols from the UAE is less than those from Germany (Caracals are also made in Suhl). A little payback for the Billions the UAE spends on US warplanes and such.

Now that the recall has been widely reported, selling new pistols could be a liability issue.

Good news (unconfirmed) on the recall front is that Caracal USA will install a fiber optic front sight in pistols returned for $29.00. I hope this is a sign that a reliable parts and accessories pipeline will be a positive result from this recall. This is on top of the “loyalty package” that includes: a free pistol magazine, T-shirt, cap and a 15% discount on your next purchase of a Caracal product.

As an owner of two Caracal pistols, I'm encouraged that it appears Caracal is trying to do the right thing.

Most people I see have never heard of Caracal, so I don't anticipate the recall proving to be a setback. Marketing, distribution, and continued "zero failure" reports will be key.

The fact that I couldn't find one is one of the reasons I got an SR9. The fact that the Ruger has a low bore centerline, like the Caracal, made it easy to live with.

You guys that think you want a caracal , don't shoot one if you get the chance. You will want one all the more. Great shooter with a 4lb-3oz trigger. Can't wait for all this recall problems gets worked out. Also the SC , sub compact model should sell very well being a narrow pistol at .093 with a 13 capacity.

I've always had one on my want list, but the need to save money (trying to purchase a new house) has kept me from buying one. Hopefully they'll show back up soon. I think around Feb-March of '13 I'll be in a position to buy some toys again :). Another factor here too is that though I like the Carcal design, I've got way to many 9mm's as it is. I really would like to get a .40 if I buy another gun, and there's no .40 version of the Carcal out yet.
