Was in Wally World the other day picking up ammo for my new .30-30--Marlin 336Y Spikehorn.

Anyway---they had all the standard 150gn--170gn Rem and Win loads---then he pulls up a Winchester 150gn hollow point load---I've never seen anything like it in .30-30-----what's the purpose for this loading?? Varmints---Defence??

Thanks

If it's a spire point styled HP as opposed to a flat nosed, then I would assume it's for a single shot like a Contender.

Not pointy---more of round nose than a flat point----A 9mm fmj with a little hole in the middle seems the best way to desribe how it looks.

hunting in close in brushy areas I would think. Made primarily for tubular magazine's I would think. (Notice lots of "I would think" in there)

I have some of those. That's good stuff for HD/SD use.

It looks like an FMJ round-nose with a hole drilled in it, right?

The only thing that concerns me about my little rifle is the possible muzzle blast from the short barrel.

I basically retired my stainless 336 to the safe because of the beautifull wood it has--we're talkin it looks like it came off a custom Dakota or something like that--its only been to the range once for fear of screwing up the wood(pretty accurate too)--have wanted a "user" .30-30 ever since ---been eyeing the Spikehorn for about a year now at the dealer---finally bit the bullet last saturday and bought the cute little rifle.

Had in mind for the little Spike as a thick brush--trunk---and maybe HD/SD gun----when I saw that ammo at Walmart---it really caught my interest.
