Whats the largest handgun you have carried?

The largest guns I carried are all roughly equivalent in size, so I'll list them all:
4in 357 mag ruger security six
5 in government model 1911
full size glock 17

None of these are overly large handguns- And no, those aren't typical sizes. I'm 6'4'' 305 lbs. I think the gun community just gets a disproportional amount of hosses.

Well I live in fl and people think big guns can't be carried here because of the heat and confortable dress but I carry a 3" .44 mag al the time in shorts and a t-shirt and uncomfertably caried a .500 and a 454 once or twice (oh, I'm 5'11 about 145 lbs) my backup gun is a 3" .45 apc

I carry a CZ75B 9mm fully loaded with 17rds. Unloaded it weighs 2.2lbs so it's quite a chunk in the chl respects.

I'm 6'10 and weigh 350lbs since we're all lying. :neener:

I have carried a 6-1/2" S&W 629 or a 6-1/2" 29 before under a jacket in the cooler months, but a 3" 64, 13, 2-1/2" 66 and a 3" 629 see most of the use. I like to wear teeshirts that are a size or two too big to hide my carry piece, when I was 275 pounds it'd hide my belly pretty good too! I'm down to about 230 now and between 6' and 6'-1".

350? Wow.

You do realize that a silverback gorilla weighs from 300 to 500 pounds?
They are from 5.5 to 6 feet tall.
A silverback's chest measures anywhere from 46 to 62 inches, usually around 50.

You are literally into gorilla range.

However, the gorilla is much stronger than a human being. To start off, their muscles are stronger, meaning they don't need huge bulking arms to have the strength of a bodybuilder. Their bones are denser and thicker, and their skin is tougher. Their bones are also scaled up.

A Gorilla's weakness is its legs, but of course this is relative to the rest of its body. A weightlifter uses their legs to help lift the weights, while a gorilla only uses its upper body strength. However, a gorilla can leap over 20 feet with a running start. A strong gorilla can lift up to 4600 pounds over their head. It is estimated that a normal male gorilla is 20 times as strong as a normal human being.

Sorry, I got carried away there.:D

Edit: I wouldn't want to try to stop that with a .45!

If I was one of those gorilla guides, I'd want at least a 44 Magnum. I'd much rather have a 303 though.

Gorillas are explosive. I wouldn't get within fifty yards of one. Mountain gorillas are not very vicious though.

Go ahead. Make my day.
It looks like Clint Eastwood!

That gorilla's a good likeness!

OK, back on topic now. Does anyone carry a .44 Magnum or larger, and not for bears?

I used to carry a 6" .44 mag 629... I have also carried a 4" .44 S&W M21... 4" S&W M22 .45acp... 5" S&W M27 .357... 2.5" 629.
I have 2 .44 mag snubbies on layaway that will be put into carry rotation once they prove themselves.
I love carrying a S&W N frame.
As for size honesty... this is me lifting a project car onto a pair of ramps.

190 lbs and 6'1". Compare that to the numbers above, it's only about 70 to 60 percent of the weight!

Feel good about that. You're just about right. We have a huge obesity problem here in the USA.

I think it's sad that in the gun community especially, sizes seem to be skewed toward the more rotund end of the spectrum. I mean, you have a bunch of guys preparing for the worst (SHTF situations and whatnot) who couldn't actually sprint toward or away from trouble if they had to. Staying in good shape is part of staying fit for survival.

Me, I'm 6' even, and 165-175 depending on the season.
Larget gun I've carried is my 4" K-frame with big ole' target grips. Only did that once. VERY uncomfortable. Largest gun I can carry regularly is my 4" M&P9.

I'm just wondering...
Are people larger on average down in Texas?

Well, you know you are in trouble when you go to Texas, walk in to get a roll of trash bags and the label says " CONDOMS...TEXAS - SMALL" :neener:

That's wicked funny. :D:D:D:D

I dont think most of those weights are anything to brag about, just some background information on their carry technique.

And I am 5'11" 190. Pretty normal.

Earl, you are correct... higher weight isnt usually something to be proud of.
Thats one reason I tend to give more than just my weight.
Tell a person who has never seen you that you weigh 310 lbs and they expect a marshmallow they rides a rascal thru walmart.
I just happen to not be the average 300 pounder, not that I couldnt skip a meal or 4. :D

A 1911 is the largest handgun I have ever carried, and it was a PITA.
Too heavy and too long.
Even my Glock 22 is really too bulky for all day carry comfort.

Of course I'm merely 5'9" and 210 lbs. (yeah, I'm your typically middle-aged dad with a little beer belly).
Heck, if I looked like the typical UFC fighter I probably wouldn't need to carry a handgun all the time!!!

BTW, if you're 6'4" and 300 lbs of muscle, you don't need to carry a hangun...you just need to wear a bullet-proof vest.
Cause nobody is going to attack you straight on man-to-man since you're a freak'n monster.
You're probably going to get shot in the back and never even see it coming.

Criminals prey upon the weak.
Nobody says "Yo dawg, let's rob that 6'4" 300 lbs cage fighter".

Easy.

at different times...a 7-1/2" barrel .44Mag Super Blackhawk and another time a 7-1/2" barrel 1858 "Army Remington" yeah..I packed a cap-n-ball revolver.

now, though I stick to 1911-A1's

the biggest pistol i ever carried was a Hi Point .45; my Sigma was at the 'smith, so i carried the HP fir a few days until i got my Sigma back. i use an Uncle Mike's to tote it in; it seemed appropriate.

these days, a full size 1911 is as big as it gets.
