I've been thinking of converting my current A2 configured Bushmaster AR15 to an A4gery--or at the very least a flattop without a fixed front sight.

If I decide to sell the upper (with a little under 1k rounds through it) what can I realistically expect for it? I added a FH, but it still doesn't have a bayo lug.

What would be a fair price to convert my current hardware to the config I want at a gunsmith?

You could probably sell the compliant upper to someone in a state that still requires them and just buy yourself a new upper.

It's not worth anything extra to us- it's no longer ban compliant. Ban compliant would mean that it has no flash hider and no lug. OP added a flash hider.

Yes but he could swap the FH for a 20 dollar brake, pin and solder it on and sell it. The lack of bayo lug is the biggie, that's a more costly modification to get that gone, or ugly if you grind it away.

Still maybe cheaper than replacing the FSB with another one, but maybe not. Might cost about the same I guess.

I'm going through something similar right now... I'm trying to sell my 16" bull barrelled upper, and it's slow going. After checking my other options, I may just convert my existing upper to 7.62 by adding a new 7.62X39mm barrel, and a new bolt. Presto Chango, and I'm good to go. Unfortunately, you want to change your upper receiver, too. You're probably going to take a bit of a bath on the sale.

I can't give you an idea of price for a conversion on yours, as I don't know exactly what you're looking to convert... will you need a new barrel? You can get a replacement A3 upper receiver for about $100, and a new barrel for about $150-$200 (off the top of my head, it might be less). I'd spend the extra $40 for a receiver vise block and $25 for the armorer's tool if you don't have one, and do it myself. It's easy enough to do.

Organdoner,

what type of upper do you have? I'm building my first AR right now and am looking for an upper.

Thanks

Forgot about the barrel--basically that would have been the only thing I kept... but .mil barrels are turned down under the HG's. Add that in and its no doubt gonna be cheaper to just get a new upper the way I want it.
