Can anyone tell me why .40 handguns are always available (in stock) to purchase as compared with 9.mm?

I have been trying to buy a new full size Walther P99 in 9mm and just can't find one, but all the gun shops I go to have the .40. I tried to buy a M&P a while back and again plenty of .40 and no 9mm.

I had 2 .40 cal. handguns and I just couldn't hit the target with either of them.

I can shoot very good with 9mm, .45 and .357 mag., so, are more people choosing 9mm over .40 and is that why .40's are so plentiful or what?

Sigbear, you should still be able to have your local shop order a P99 9mm for you. I've been quoted $550 for one from my favorite place. The Smith SW99's seem to be more common to find in 9mm, and are based (see slightly modified from) on the Walther P99.

In my area .40 S&W cost just as much as .45Auto. I myself dont like .40. I like 9mm and .45.

marketing, that's why

because inventory numbers control cost, and ones in shops also control expected sales, thus the mkt dept might think more customers intend to buy a .40. (Mind you, we don't have data showing the original assumption that "shops" - which ones, how many - are carrying more guns in .40 than in 9).

don't let any factors or circumstances such as these weigh heavily on your decision-making criteria for caliber selection for whatever purpose.

I like the .40 for what it can do, and the 9 for what it can do. Sweeeeeeet

Both are great rounds, I have a 9 and a 40.

The 40 is getting to be my favorite round.

9mm is more popular imho, but not only that but ammo prices as of late also is a big factor.

I had 2 .40 cal. handguns and I just couldn't hit the target with either of them.
this isn't the calibers fault. i have 3 .40 handguns and i don't have an issue shooting any of them as a matterof fact i know my xd service model so wel and have so many rds through it that i can shoot it better than ay oher gun that i have ever shot. it is reliable accurate, and i have no issue controlling the "snapy" recoil that isn't a problem for me any way.

if i didn't have so much .40 brass and so many reloading comonets and the 3 already than i would go 9mm too. as i shoot alot the cheaper that ammo the better. i won't be converting to 9mm exclusivly until my supplies run dry but one dy i am sure that i will.
