Is the Glock 36 any good?

IMG_7291.JPG

They seem to be the red-headed step child of Glock in terms of accessories though. Not much out there in the way of mag extensions, sticker grips or holsters.

The one sticking point (at least for me) to potentially buying one/trading for one seems to be the 6+1 ammo capacity. Wish that it was at least an 8+1. I could at least deal with 7+1 though.

However the only +1 mag extenders that still seem to be around is Hyve.

The other extensions are either +0 or out of stock.

What's your impression of the Glock 36 and how long have you owned it?

I have had one for several years and carried it every day for a couple years. Nothing wrong with it. That said, wouldn't buy one today.
There are several other Glock models similar in size and weight that have more capacity. If you want 45 ACP the 30S would be a better choice.

I've owned several and have one now. It is a back up to the G30S I carry all the time.

They had a few teething problems when new. I know a buddies broke smoothing in the fire control group several times (tieing up the pistol) before Glock replaced it with an upgraded part. I think this may have gave them something of a reputation. It also isn't very slim for what it is. I find I much prefer the .45 Shield.

Of course you might take that with a grain of salt as the only Glock I've really liked is the G17/G22 and the only one I currently own is a G22 which I mostly shoot with a 9mm Conversion. Lately the G41 has been growing on me though.

If I had one, I would keep it. If I needed or wanted a single stack striker fired 45 auto, I would get a S&W shield 45. But I don't need or want one, because I have a shield 9. I have this because I was disappointed with the Glock 43. All of my other handguns for HD, CC, competition, training, and hunting sidearms are Glocks.

It must have been a slow enough seller that Glock never brought it forward into a Gen4 configuration.

It was my first Glock. I liked it, but at the time, 6+1 wasn't the 7+1 of a 1911. If I were to buy any Glock today, it would be a 30S. Mostly due to the fact that my 9mm needs are taken care of with the SIG P320. Also, because I found a spare mag of a Glock 21 I had years ago and it could do back up duty.

If I were going .45 Single Stack, I'd most likely go with a Shield. Mostly because SA guns are a little too aggressive in grip texture, and I don't know if a Glock 36 could scratch the itch with the mentioned 6+1.

Thank you for the responses. Just trying to figure out if one would be worth $360.

It's a bit larger than some of the pocket carry polymer auto's I have, so it would probably mean a belt holster and then at that point the G26 or the 19's/23 make more sense.

No, getting single stack version of G30S (width difference is only 5mm) makes zero sense to me.

I carried a 36 and shot it in IDPA for about three years, IIRC. Three times, a trigger assembly throughpin broke, disabling the gun. Had a Glock armorer do each repair. I also had a recoil spring assembly fail, again disabling the gun.

I decided that my example was too unreliable for a carry piece, so I sold it, with mags, leather, etc. Bought an XD compact in 45 and haven't had a single failure with it through zillions of rounds.

The XD fits my hand better, too.

At least my Glock 36 was less than "perfection".

I had Glock 36
Dislikes:
Grip frame cut short for no reason, Glock never offered a flush fit magazine, why cut grip short just to add an oversize mag base.
Funky grip feel, feels dissimilar to other Glocks, too humped in my perception.
Capacity is lacking, Glock 30 offers 10 rounds with oversize mag base, 9 round flush fit.
If Glock 36 had a flush fitting mag and was no bigger in height/length than a XDs then it could fit in my front pocket and be useful as a 2nd gun - as a primary pistol carried IWB it (36) is lacking compared to the 30SF which I still have.

Disclaimer: if you have a Glock 36 and like the funky grip, fine. If you think 6 rounds in a primary is sufficient, fine. Not me.

I had a G36. It was very reliable and extremely accurate. It did have a lot of muzzle rise in recoil, so for me, kind of slow follow up shots.
Its only real problem is that it about the same size as a G19. Seven rounds of 45acp or sixteen rounds of 9mm. I went with the G19.
