Is there something going on - looks like a lot of the news articles are from several months back...

I mean, I'm sorry that officers have died in the line of duty, but I don't see how a local news report from February is really relevant to the Legal & Political forum...

Just wondering if I missed something...

I think people are worried that each one of these stories is just fuel for the Democrats and their AWB fire...

Speaking of LEOs shot

I caught on the local news last night that someone is posting flyers offering a $5000 reward for the shooting/killing of 'corrupt cops'. IIRC these were posted in the same neighborhood where Denver PD shot and killed a man sleeping in his bed (according to reports) a few weeks ago. From the video on the news cast, the flyers are four color print jobs, either pro or from a good inkjet.

Similar flyers were posted about a year ago after Denver PD shot and killed a 'disturbed youth' who's family had called them when their 15 y/o son was being diffucult. I don't recall the details, I think he was holding a kitchen knife and standing in the door of his home. There was some dispute as to the course of events in the killing, as there normally is. Those were simple black and white jobs, not very well layed out at all.

A fair number of folks are not happy with the Denver PD here, and have not been for years IIRC. I think things got hotter for Denvers PD.

Locally we've had 4 cops shot in the last month alone.

If you look, you'll see that the threads were all posted by Steve in PA. He's just spamming the board with cut ans paste articles (without any commentary) that go back to at least Feb. I have several theories about why he's doing this, but none of them cast him in a positive light. Most of these are based on the fact that Steve has a history of defending even the most idiotic of LEO actions. In fact, he's rather close to FedDC in that regard.

Cannibal your wrong again

well kinda wrong at least.
it is steve in PA but it's not spamming it's called flooding.

I don't think what he is doing is very nice though (but I understand his motive and sympathize), I think what he is doing is attempting to illustrate how dangerous it is to be a cop and to bash back at all the anti cop stuff thats been cropping up here.

I think both sides of the debate need to step back and aknowledge how hard it is to be in armed security!;)

So, why do they do it if it's so dangerous ? The toys, the power, the excitement ? The pay is not even that good. What is it that drives one to become a law enforcement officer ? Sometimes I have trouble seeing the "serve and protect" but moreso the "law enforcement" side of the job. I once in my exhuberant youth got mouthy with a cop and he and five or six of his buddies beat the ???? out of me until I was no longer conscious. They left me on the side of the road, alone, and I managed to collect myself and get home. I don't know what I was thinking when I said what I did, but I thought *** did I do to deserve this? Maybe Mr. Badass cop was having a bad day and didn't appreciate a punk kid disrespecting him? Who knows ? Me ? I learned my lesson but there are some who cannot and refuse to grow past a certain developmental level, and thus harbor some very extreme views about LEOS. These would be your cop killers.

Newsflash - WonderNine is Right For a Change!!!!

Police work is hardly dangerous at all - if you limit the danger to being murdered.

Now if you factor in the:

Divorce rate
Death due to accidents - MVAs, fire, falls etc.
Substance abuse rate
Suicide rate
Cardiac, skeletal and gastrointestinal disease rate
Early mortality rate
Early retirement based on disability rate

it is'nt quite as rosy. Policing is a lot like an iceberg - there is much going on below the surface.

it is steve in PA but it's not spamming it's called flooding.
Actually, flooding is a type of spamming. It's like the revolver/pistol argument, but in the end it's personal preference.
I think what he is doing is attempting to illustrate how dangerous it is to be a cop and to bash back at all the anti cop stuff thats been cropping up here.
He's failing miserably. Just imagine how the board would look if someone wanted to post all the bad cop stories for the past five months.

sendec
  • Divorce rate - self imposed
  • Death due to accidents - there might be a slight edge over some occupations
  • Substance abuse rate - self imposed, but one could argue that the availability of "free" drugs increases their risk (of course that doesn't help the "cops are good" argument
  • Suicide rate - self imposed
  • Cardiac, skeletal and gastrointestinal disease rate - well, if they'd keep in shape...
  • Early mortality rate - from what, spontaneous combustion?
  • Early retirement based on disability rate - another case where there might be a slight edge over some occupations

I find the articles useful. It gives me an idea of what is happening in other parts of the country. Some of these incidents aren't covered by The New York Post. Maybe there are some things which happen that could occur locally, affecting me and mine.

I don't look at it as a LEO vs BG. I look at it as a Good Guy vs BG scenario. I might learn something.

I don't know Steve. I have no objection to his posting these articles.

It's not. It's not even in the top ten. They just like to whine. Pay for LEO's here ain't too shabby either compared to other jobs around here

Maybe I oughta move to where you are. If I were to go ful time LEO here, it would be a nice paycut...but as it is I do it for FREE...

Talk about whining...this board exemplifies it....."I got a ticket".."I got searched"..." I got arrested for doing somethin blatantly illegal"..."I got caught driving with no insurance, since its just a racket, they shoulda let me go"..

I didn't get arrested. I didn't even get ticketed. My thought is that in my incident, the officer/'s new they had crossed the line. The officer to whom my rude comment was made "lost it" and (his words) were gonna teach me some respect. After I regained consciousness there was nobody around, the five or so policemen were all gone. I picked myself up off of the ground and was able to find a safe way home, no ambulance, no assistance from passing motorists, nothing. I believe there were several witnesses too, just none who wanted any of what I was gettin'. You can't say police brutality doesn't happen. There was a case here a few months ago that received national attention. I suppose you're gonna tell me they should have just shot the perp for resisting. I'll tell you, that guy will never forget what happened that day, although he's probably in prison.
