Interesting that there's lots of pistols.

I think it was Clint Smith who said, "A handgun is for fighting your way to your rifle which you shouldn't have put down in the first place."

In my case, the event that I need my HD gun would mean my top priority would be to secure my children, and I'd need a spare arm for that.

Should I for some reason need to hard point my home I'd just have to use my Glock to get to my basement, where my CQB rigged carbine and loaded .300 BLK mags live. Short of Chinese invasion, civil unrest (somehow in my rural neck of the woods) or the zombie apocolypse, I dont see that happening.

Meth heads breaking in, may be, but again the I'll be focused on securing my kids while my two dogs chew on the bad guys.

Mossberg 500 pump with an 18" barrel, loaded with 2 3/4" military 00 buck.

I do have two pistols on the nightstand... my EDC, a Kahr CW9, because that's where I put it when I go to bed, and a Kahr CM9 in the drawer, because that's where I keep it (to swap with the CW when I need to,) but if I hear a bump, I'm grabbing the shotgun first.

Beretta PX4 9mm full size with a combo light/laser. I chose it for bedside duty because it's a DA/SA platform, and I like the DA trigger pull if I'm awakened in the middle of the night and the adrenaline is flowing.

There is also a Mossberg 500 loaded with buckshot in my gun safe about 6 steps away. For shelter in place, the shotgun would be the tool of choice.

A Colt Commander in 38 Super and the SAAGA 20gauge shotgun loaded with double ought buck. But once again, to get into our house first you have to get past a very protective ton of beef on the hoof, the outside dogs and the inside dogs. Then to get to me you are going to have to get past my AR armed husband and to get to the kids you are going to have to get through me. If you're lucky, the bull will get you.

The 2.75 inch barrel Security Six lives under the bed in my 'bump in the night' bag; a Ruger Mini 14 and an Ithaca 37 are in a double gun case in the bedroom closet. Everything else is locked up in the safe in another room. The kids are long grown and gone so I don't have a problem with a few loaded guns outside of the safe. Back when we did have kids in the house, the Security Six lived in a handgun safe under the bed and everything else was locked up.

There is also an AR pistol with brace and light hanging from by its' single point sling from the bedpost.

Why: I went away from my old nightstand guns (.45s) when I realized there was a better than 50% chance the person that would most likely have o use it would be my wife. She didn't like shooting my 1911s, SIG 220 or HK45T. She would shoot and practice with my 9mms. So I downsized caliber and bought 2 of the 5" Pros, one serves duty as the nightstand gun and the other is for range use and I shoot IDPA with it.

Light for TGT ID, I've taken several low-light classes and shot a bunch of low-light stages in matches, IF I can attach a light I will. Laser because IF I forget my glasses I can still see the dot.....

M&P9 M2.0 Compact. Why? Because it's the only firearm I own... for now. Currently loaded with Hornady Critical Defense, although I'll probably rotate them out for Federal HST or Speer GD over time, something with better penetration especially for winter.

taurus pt11 g2 mill pro with 15rd mag and light on the rail. It's #3 in my carry rotation (but I've never carried it), the #1 and #2 don't have lights. Not far away is a mossberg 500, my carry piece of that day and a nice sharp naval cutlass.

Next to the gun vault my bedroom is the most heavily armed room in the house.

On the bed;

Weapon 1 is our Jack Russel Terrier.

Weapon 2 is our Corgi mix Terrier.

Weapon 3 is my Ruger Vaquero 45 Colt. It is hanging on the headpost rail in a holster by my head. Many thousands of rounds in CAS and CMS and years of shooting it makes this probably the most familiar gun I own.

Beside the bed on wife's side;

Weapon 4 is a large German Shepherd mix puppy in training. When she outgrows being a puppy she is going to be a fearsome guard dog.

I have told this dog several times that I will forgive her for chewing on the furniture as long as she always protects my wife. I think she understands her job as she usually sleeps on the floor beside my wife's side of the bed.

Weapon 5 is a S&W M&P 1.0 17 round 9mm with APEX Duty Trigger and a green Crimson Trace "lasor" sight. I gave her the "lasor" for her birthday in April and she loves it.

Across from the foot of the bed on entertainment center;

Weapon 6 is my Beretta 92FS edc.

Desk drawer;

Taurus 5 round 38 Special revolver.

Behind the bedroom door;

Nothing. Yep taking a chance with no long gun. The AR-15 that I have a Crimson Trace "lasor" sight on is a good candidate once I get confident with having the "lasor" sighted in.

Of course these weapons are only for use to get me to the gun vault. There I have my SERIOUS self-defense weapons.

I have one of those biometric liberty handgun safes, I'm in within a second and it's large enough I store my G21, G19, and G43. I'm most familiar with Glocks, so these are my go to HD guns.
