What's Your Best Gun Deal Ever?

Can't top Dryhumor. The only time that I would say that I got a good deal was the my model 700. The best price I could find for one was $800 (at Walmart) until one day one day when I found one for $700. When I got to the register, the price rang up incorrectly (for $650).

The $150 AR15

Traded a AK I paid $350 for for a complete AR with tons of extras. Sold off the extras I didn't want for $200. $150 AR15 that needed some TLC since the original owner didn't know what he was doing when he put it together. It is nothing fancy just a del-ton kit gun that he scratched up and screwed up the gas block on. An hour with the tools out and I have a 100% AR from my 18 month old:rolleyes: I figure the scratches will get covered up with some pink duracoat in the future anyway:D

Two guns for $65

My grandmother-in-law remarried and we were visiting. The new husband had a few old guns hanging on the wall and I was admiring them. He mentioned he never shot them anymore but would really like a .22 revolver for breaking his horses. I told him I would keep an eye out for him that I run across them all the time. He ended up giving me a 100 year old 16ga single shot and a Colt .25. On the premise as partial payment for a .22 if I found one. I bought him a .22 later that week for $65 and giving it to him for Christmas. Neither gun is really anything special, but $65 for two guns is pretty good. I figure we would have spent half of that on him for Christmas anyway.

I now consider buying M1 Carbines from various makers for $125 each a good deal...that was in the early 90s though. Recently, probably an Armalite AR-10 for $739 earlier this year when everyone was looking for evil rifles.

I've only truly bought one firearm, but it was still a pretty good deal. S&W M&P 9mm for $399 from Bud's.

trade for tractor

Had an old Massey Ferguson tractor I bought from a guy for $25 didn't run, flat tires etc. Advertised it for sale or trade on craigs list. A guy approached me and wanted to trade 2 guns for it, I said yes, sight unseen and set a time for the exchage not having any idea what he was bringing to trade and didn't care, I just wanted the tractor out of my yard. When he showed up, he got the guns out and one was a Winchester 42 pump 410 and the other a pre64 model 94 both in 90% condition. I threw in another old piece of farm equipment for no extra charge and helped him load his tractor! I checked the ser# with the local sherrif and they come up clean, by the way. To this day I don't know why he did that.:D

I recently traded a family member an AR15 A2 upper with a 16" barrel I had laying around for an HK USP .40

Last year I scored a Stoeger Luger .22lr for $20. The guy thought it was broken, but could be fixed by a gunsmith. In reality he had attempted to disassemble it for cleaning and didn't get it put back together right. Went home and downloaded the schematic and presto! Fun little plinker that is a bit more exotic than my Ruger and the accuracy flat out amazes everyone who shoots it. Pistol is in perfect shape, not even any scratches - just the 2 original handgrip screws were traded out for some bulk silver junk. That reminds me... I need to buy a couple screws for another gun too...

I got all of my best gun deals this year, some because a local gun shop closed back in June, some off of the internet buying through gun forums, and a couple from gun shows.

My dad is the one that gets the really good deals. A couple of years ago he scored a Winchester Model 94 Trapper for $75 and a very nice S&W Model 36 Chief's Special, also for $75.

Here's a list of my best deals:

I didn't think so at the time, but I paid $650 for a LNIB 4" blued Python, with box and manuals, in 2003. Saw a similar gun listed on Gunbroker not long ago for 2K.

Best deal I ever passed up was a 2.5" Diamondback LNIB for $450 from the same guy.

My father bought a rifle for $525 from a pawn shop. The rifle had a Lyman Targetmaster 20x scope on it. I sold the scope on Ebay for about $575. Dad got a free gun :)

My dad found a Win '94 w/octagon, barely used at all for $85.

Unfortunately, I never have good luck with used guns. I either find junk priced as dirt or jewels priced as gold. I traded a coworker a case of beer for an old, but unfired, H&R .30-30. A so-so deal.

Around the year 2001 I found a MINT 1961 Nickle 'E' series Colt Python for $400 out the door. Appeared unfired, it'l easly bring in +$2K today.

I have two pretty good ones. A friend sold me a Rem. model 700 7mm-Mag with three shots fired, for $200. He won the gun in a raffle, and hated the kick, so good deal for me. Another buddy gave me a Finish Mosin that was in a closet in the house he moved into. He does not shoot, and didn't want to bother with selling a gun (he had a feeling he would have black helicopters over his house if he did). So far that is about it, but I am always hoping for good deals to roll my way.

Ruger P95 from a Divorce sale, brand new for $100 flat :) Also just picked up a Glock 23c in new condition for $300

JOe

I've been blessed enough to have been given quite a few guns by my dad, and one by a neighbor... but I guess those don't qualify as "deals."

Best purchase I've made is probably either a like-new stamped slide SIG P226 for $400 (not the best deal but pretty good IMO) or a NIB Cobray M11/9 with suppressor for $1000.

Well,it didnt seem like a deal at the time, but its a steal now,on july 3rd,1983 while other nitwits were buying fireworks,i bought an hk91 nib(which i still have) for 599.95....

Just a few months ago I had an old S&W 669 9mm develop a small frame crack. Sent to S&W. Called me back in a few days and said they could not repair but the gun was obviously in otherwise excellent condition and they wanted to know if I wanted a new S&W M&P...I said 45 Compact? They said OK. Free 45 M&P Compact for an old 669. I say that's pretty good. S&W customer service...excellent

hmm, i mostly trade but it comes out to something like this

$100 - Finnish M 28/30 mosin
$300 - Stainless Steel cast receiver CETME
$600- Polytech M14
$400- Standard Product M1 carbine
$650- Polish Underfolder
$600- Imbel FAL

the list goes on

S&W 442 NIB. Woman bought it...waited the 10 day wait and returned it the next day. I bought it for $325.

Story was she had cancer...we believe she wanted to do something bad with it and changed her mind. A life was saved and I got the best deal I've had yet.
