Guys,
I'm working up some loads for the 25-06 we just finished putting together. The gun is sporterized with a mauser 98 action (modelo argentino 1909) and tiger maple stock!

Powders I have to load with:
IMR4831/H4831SC/IMR4350

At this time I only have "light" bullets (sierra 75/90GR BT's, Hornady spire 87GR), but I would like to see some recipes with heavier bullets. I'd like to go get some heavier bullets today.

SO, what's your favorite recipe?

First of all, awesome stock. I have a tiger maple butt on my Vepr. I love that look.

From all my research, 4350 is a most prevalent powder. I have found fewer light bullet loads with 4831. My best loads have been with imr4064, for that size bullet, but I don't see that on your list.

I just loaded some 87gr Sierras with 4831sc, 56.5 up to 58, in increments of .5. I have not shot them yet. Depending on what I see, I will then surround the best loads with .1 increments.

I suggest you focus on 4350...but I am pretty new and know VERY LITTLE.

Again, awesome rifle, my 25-06 is a mauser conversion, too, but not in same league!

Good Luck

I use IMR 4831 for all bullet weights in 25-06 with good results. A mild load for Hornady 100 gr. SP's that shoot great in my rifle is 51.0 grains of IMR 4831 I've loaded up to 53.6 grains of IMR 4831 using RP 9 1/2 primers in RP brass for about 3140 fps with the 100 Hornady SP. At 51 grains it shows around 2950 fps all in a 24" barrel. The Hornady 117 gr BTSP also shoots good with IMR 4831 using 51.7 grains for about 2962 fps. Check your manuals before using these load levels. I've only used Hornady bullets for reloading but another great shooting factory round is Remingtons 120 gr. HP load. Your rifle is too pretty to take out of a display case and chance scratching the finish.

with 100grain nosler balistic tips i load 55.5grains of IMR7828 SSC and a CCI250 magnum primer at 3.180" COAL. I don't have it chronod in my 24" Vanguard S2, but it'll send 5 shots inside an inch all day long

I agree, although all my guns get shot - including this one! I want it to shoot as good as it looks! If/when I scratch it, we will fix the stock then and there! :D

The best is to work up a load that shoots good in your gun. What works good in one gun might not work in a different gun. GOOD LUCK

My favorite plinker load in 25-06 is 48.3 grains of Hybrid 100V and an 117 grain SGK.

This one I remember off the top of my head. I have one rifle that prefers the 85 grain Combined Tech Silvertips but I'd be afraid to quote it from memory. It's slightly over max.

What is your barrel twist. If 1:10 or faster you can shoot heavier bullets. If 1:14 you will get best results with bullets 90 grains or lighter. You may not have the latitude you like in bullet selection if you have a slow twist barrel.

That being said, if you have a fast twist barrel ... and ... if you pick up some Nosler 115 grain Ballistic Tip bullets ... give Retumbo a try. Then try to stop smiling.

IMR 4350 for bullets up to 100 grs. IMR4831/H4831 for bullets over 100 grs.

If you really want some really quick loads for 110 gr, 115 gr, 117 gr and 120 gr ... look to RL22, RL25 ... my favorite IMR 7828 and Retumbo...

Been reloading the 25/06 since 1969 ... I've tried a bunch of different powders/bullets...
My load for this season ... the Nosler 110 gr. Accubond over IMR 7828 ... zipping right along and groups near 3/4" @ 100 yds... for GA whitetail deer...

I'm a imr 4350 fan too, really like the wood. One of my favorite rifles is my 25-06, someday it will wear nice wood also

120 grain Core-Lokt Remington bullet.

Push it with 50 grains of Surplus 4831. That would be pretty close to the short cut stuff but not exactly the same. Magnum primers will be more reliable. These are most accurate fodder the rifle has eaten. There is a little smoke that comes out the barrel. Doubt if pressure or muzzle velocity is high. Over the years it may be dropping a little but is still a tight group recipe.

IMR 4831 has always been my favorite powder for 100 and 120 grain bullets. Every 25-06 rifle I have owned has shot less than minute of angle groups with very little effort. I think the 25-06 is at its finest with 120 grain bullets because it is more predictable. The rifles have light recoil, handle wind deflection very well and are easy to hit with. If you can't shoot a 25-06 well you've got some other problem!
