If I had $25 bucks spending money and I needed powder to load 9mm, 40 S&W, 38 SPCL, and 45 ACP, I would buy a can of Unique and 6 cans of Coors.

Cheers...

+1 for HS-6. one of the best velocities and its very clean. it also burns pretty well in shorter barrels even though its not a "super fast" powder

VihtaVuori N340.
If I chose a Viht powder, it would be N320. N320 is better suited to the .45, where N340 is better suited to the 9MM in real world testing in my guns.

Because the pressures the 9MM and the .45 operate at are so different, it is a comprimise to pick just one, but there are several that will do quite well in both.

W-231, N320, Unique, 700X, AA #2, AA # 5, Scott Royal D, & SR-4756 will all do pretty well for that.

"If you were going to buy one powder to drive 9mm to 45 ACP, what would you choose?"

Begging yr pardon, but you asked the wrong question. Unless you will be always shooting one bullet weight and one desired muzzle velocity, you will be needing more than one powder: faster burning powder for lighter bullet and/or slower velocity (for plinking); slower burning powder for heavier bullet and/or faster muzzle velocity.

Methinks you should be looking for the trinity (a fast, a medium, and a slow burning powder) not the grail (one for all purposes). The answer to that question might be: Bullseye, Power Pistol, Blue Dot

Or the real old school Hercules trinity that has been getting the job done and covering all the bases pretty well for generations... Bullseye, Unique, 2400. I do like Power Pistol pretty well though. Another "all ball" WW/Hodgdon classic combo could be WW231/HP38, WW540/HS-6, 296/H110. With so many choices, and so many that have come and gone, IMO and experience you could do a hell of a lot worse than what is listed for most pistol/revolver loads.

Hello Everyone, I use Herco for 357 mag, 41 mag and 44 mag. So far I have enjoyed shooting with it. Herco I my chose for reloading cast bullets with gas checks.

I use UNIQUE sure it turns guns and yourself black but it packs powed in 38 spl supmegagutbuster rounds. I have a need for large powder burning sessions and UNIQUE makes it happen.

Unique.

Though I seem to be using Bullseye for 9mm and 45 ACP, with Unique for most everything else inbetween.

I'll add Longshot my favorite list, its giving me great performance in 40 S&W, 165 gr Ranier's, and it does fine for mid-range 357 loads, it will also push the 38 special pretty good, burns clean.:)

one powder

I reload .380,9mm,.38 Spl.,.357 Mag.,.40S&W,.44 Spl.,.44 Mag.,.45 ACP, and.45 Colt.and I have loaded them all with each of the following:Bullseye,
W231,Unique,AA#2, and Titegroup. I have settled on Titegroup for most everything but still have some of each of the above for experimenting. I also have some 2400 and H110 on hand for experimenting with the Magnums (just haven't gotten to it yet).

Longshot is a great powder. I use it in my .45acp. Excellent groups with it.

Hey benzuncle, H110 is great for jacketed bullets with a .357 mag! :)
