whats your favorite caliber

I'd have to say 9mm Luger. Cheap to shoot, low recoil, many cool guns chambered for the caliber, and very effective with modern JHP designs.

It's a toss up between the .45acp and the 10mm. I'd hate to have to choose only one.

.45 ACP for me. Great history. Also it feels really good to fire. Satisfying power without overwhelming the shooter.

Having said that, I have to mention that I also very much enjoy .25 ACP. It's not good for much, but it's a cute and appealing miniature, fun to handle, fun to look at, fun to reload. :p

I also love the Baby Browning pistol... real Browning quality in shirtpocket size. The pistol is like a little jewel. :)

Hey, you ASKED!!! :D

Die Pistole patrone 08 (9mm Luger for you folks in Rio Linda) :D

Light recoiling, accurate, inexpensive (both factory ammo & reloading), and more then powerful enough for 99% of any type of defensive situation one might encounter. It's no wonder it is the most popular pistol cartridge in history and will likely remain in that position for another century.

The great .45 ACP.
I used to shoot bowling pin matches with it. It hits hard and is easier to reload for me than the 9mm. It was very easy to find accurate loads in .45.
Lots of history connected with the .45 too.

I've also shot it in a few subguns. That's also a lot of fun.

45ACP all the way, but I'm shooting a lot of 9mm these days since the ammo is so cheap (and to feed my wife's gun).

But mostly I carry a S&W SC360 Scandium .357 magnum or a .40 S&W PM40.

All will do the job if you take care of the three Ps -- Placement, Placement and Placement.

Hands down favorite has been the .45 a.c.p. since the mid-sixties. Power, easy recoil and accuracy.

I like 9mm Parabellum too though for cost, ease of using full capacity magazines and besides, I just love my Hi-Powers.

not sure what you meant by "bottom feeders" my favorite to shoot is probably .357 now. i bought a win 94 in .357 and always enjoyed shooting my GP100 but now as a pair and the wide range of loads .38 .38+P .357 .357+P. i have been shooting a lot with that caliber. i carry a 1911 and .45 is a close second. then 10mm a third. never had much confidence in 9mm. ya i have one of course but i dont shoot it much.

.22 for me.. I only own 2 handguns a .22 and a .40 the .22 is cheap cheap cheap to shoot. over 1600 rounds for under 30 bucks..

Shot the .40 this weekend, shot a little over 400 rounds through it got a lil sore forearm but it is well worth it.. :D I so bad want to shoot my HD bullets.. lol

9x19 - Cheap to shoot (great for college students), tons of wonderful pistols chambered for it (too many to choose from!), and effective with quality JHPs

Of course, who could not love the .45ACP? Especially with the 1911, Sig P220, and CZ97......

and the 10mm - just wish they had more firearm options for it

oh and the .22LR
and the 7.62x25
and the.....

Hmmm ... All of the calibers come in very nicely made platforms, for the most part. Lots of good quality ammunition available, using the best of the modern bullet designs in all calibers, too.

My first thought was 9mm, because of the accuracy and controllability of the caliber, as well as the overall acceptable size of the available platforms chambered for it. I've been carrying issued & personally owned 9mm pistols for many years.

Then, I'd say .40 S&W, because it generally requires a bit more of the user when it comes to recoil management, accuracy and controllability, but it also comes in nicely proportioned pistols which fit most small & medium-sized hands. I've also been carrying an optionally issued full size .40 S&W pistol for a few years, which I occasionally carry in my plainclothes assignment.

Then, I'd probably say .45 ACP. A personal favorite back when I got my first blued lightweight Commander, and then traded it for a steel Combat Commander. I've been carrying different personally owned pistols chambered in this venerable caliber as an off duty weapon since I first entered L/E.

Funny thing is, though, when I count the pistols in my safe, I own more .45 ACP pistols than I do 9mm & .40 S&W pistols combined. :scrutiny: That must mean something ...

Also, when I was asked to select one of the new service pistols we're about to start issuing, which are available in both .40 S&W and .45 ACP (we're transitioning from 9mm as a general issue caliber), I tossed a mental coin and selected the .45 ACP model. ;)

That must mean something, too.

For defense, .45ACP.

For plinking, 9mm. I find .22lr to be boring.

I shoot .45 the most though, I only have two pistols that are chambered in other calibers, and one is a wheelgun so I'm not sure if it counts...

In autos it's 9mm (never got into the .40) if I'm shooting a lot.

10mm if I really want to fix things NOW.

Big fan of the .357 in wheelguns and of course keep lots of .22 on hand for practice.

My favorite to shoot is .45ACP, but my favorite at the checkout counter is 9mm.

I don't have a 22LR gun yet. It just doesn't do it for me.

Marko;

It's a non-question for me. Horses for courses & all that. In other words, I not only don't have a favorite, I refuse to have a favorite.

I have, in bottom feeders, .22, 9mm, 40 S&W, & .45ACP. What I use depends on what I want done. When I want that task done, I demand that the cartridge used does its job in a manner that satisfies my requirements.

The trick is, knowing both the task and the tool.
