I'm looking for a high quality custom leather gun belt. However, I'm having a tough time choosing. I don't want to wait 5-6 months for something like a Milt Sparks belt, but want something of similar quality. I'm also familiar with The Belt Man belts, and also TT Gunleather belts. The wait time for a Belt Man belt is only a little over a month so I'm leaning towards it, but I'm open to suggestions.

I also don't know whether or not to go with double-ply cow hide or single/double-ply horse hide. Double-ply is supposed to be great for its rigidity, but I also don't want the belt to be a quarter-inch thick.

Do you guys with double-ply belts like them? Will single-ply horse hide remain rigid for several years? What's your favorite and why?

Thanks. - CP

I am wearing a 1.5" horsehide from Jim the Beltman. I opted for the 7 hole pattern as well.

It holds a 5" steel 1911 IWB like it's not there.

Mitch Rosen - very nice. Short delivery time.

Milt Sparks 1 1/2" it's Cordovan dyed and the basket weave, MS belts
are cut contoured, 2 pieces of leather glued together then
stitched on the edges, worth the money - I got it same order as
my MS #Axiom holster, I believe the best belt for a holster is to
get one from the same maker as the holster. Well, worth it, I got
one for a son-in-law who works construction and now the other son-in-law is expecting one as well. So, that'll be added to the next order
from MS.

I just received my first belt from the Belt Man. I ordered the 1 1/4" dual layer bullhide belt with the internal stiffner, black in color with brass buckle. I wanted it mainly for when I was wearing a suit, I wanted a belt that looked good enough for dress wear, but was strong enough to support a holster and gun.

I waited 40 days from date of order to delivery and have no complaints at all about the belt, it works just fine for what I wanted it for. I also noticed that it is stiff enough to make the fit of the handgun just a little more snug in the holster. I would not hesitate to order another.

I wear a Galco SB-2. It's a pretty expensive belt but I wear it everyday. I have no complaints about the belt just make sure you call to check the availability. I think most companies rely on Galco or distributors to ship these belts.

I'm looking for a high quality custom leather gun belt … I also don't want the belt to be a quarter-inch thick.

Could try one of these:

Josh Bulman went out of his way to contact me and make one of his swell UGBS Urban Gun Belt Slim models for me, too. Nice fellow. Excellent belt. I looked at a number of gun belts and chose his for pretty much the very reasons you listed. The belt is barely thicker than my old flabby single-ply just-needs-to-hold-up-me-britches belt. Part of what caught my eye were the buckle and stitching. Looked like quality stuff without being flashy, that stitching subtler than many other examples. I only hope not to chub up so much I can't wear it anymore.

Beltman, Ive got 2. Not a bad wait time for a custom made belt (if you undo the chicago screws your name will probably be under the flap that holds the buckle). And Jim stands behind his product, great guy to do business with.

Beltman fan here. I have the natural horsehide, 1.5". I lost one of the Chicago screws. I called Jim and he promptly sent me 2 replacements which I secured with loctite. The belt is my everyday wear whether carrying or not.

Desantis makes a very nice, sturdy leather belt. Not too expensive ($65 or so) and very quick delivery time.

My favorite is the Rafter S.
My every day belt is made by San Antonio Saddlery (mostly because it's probably 10 years old and well worn-in).

Try bandera gunleather, llc home of the beltster. Fast personal service. I was very pleased.
