We all know the threads that kind of make us roll our eyes when we see them. The ones that keep popping up that you know will be locked soon, or will turn into a chest-thumping argument, or just serve no real purpose (admittedly, like this one :D )

So what are the thread themes that annoy YOU the most?

For me, it is the divisive ones. Those that ask people to list things they hate, or encourage people to attack the interests and habits of others.

I'd say the complaining about others at the range. Many threads are legitimate but several are just bashing people who do things differently. In my opinion if someone is being safe and not affecting you let them be, even if they want to setup a camera and where a clown suit while zeroing in their AR :D

For me, it's actually whenever someone is asking a hardware question, and the answer people give is "training." In some cases, it's appropriate. But when people ask "which is better, Glock or M&P", they're looking for two things: 1) functionally, is one better than the other? and 2) what features are different that might work better for me? But when people say "training is the important thing" it doesn't answer their question.

Ryanxia, please do this and post the video on youtube.

Zombies get shut down almost immediately so no worries. Bear threads can kind of be fun to follow. Gun X vs Gun Y (read as 1911 vs Glock) just get silly. Ninja and Bubba stories are relate-able and it's comforting to (or NOT) to know I'm not the only one who runs into these guys. How many Xs? kind of nice to see what's out there. Taking guns after election.. really guys? if that was IN the agenda you do it 1st term as there is NO guarantee you'll get a 2nd. Other.. most of those are, the guys preaching on how their bubba'd 1911s don't work so all 1911s are junk. ;)

Classicarms.us changing their URL to classicfirearms.com; now the webfilter at work blocks them :cuss:

aimsurplus.com, wideners.com, and jgsales.com, are readily accessible, heck I can even shop on Amazon.com all day. It would seem the word 'firearms' is just hated by the people that make these blacklists.

For me it is the ones that have terrible or misleading titles that make me click on it. I don't really mind any other type of thread because if it doesn't sound worthwhile to read then I just don't click on it. Mostly I hate the responses that just complain about the OP, like "there are other more important things to worry about." But apparently, there aren't other more important things to read about because you are reading this thread and even responding only to point out how silly it is (assuming the title isn't misleading). That irks me.

The bigger issue I have is with a lot of the same old canned responses/buzzwords/catchphrases that get thrown around.

"Save more money and get _____ because your life may depend on it"
"Okay if you think ____ cartridge is so weak, stand in front of it and let me shoot you!" (With regards to caliber wars)

There are others but I can't think of them right now.

For me, it's the "they'll take our guns away after the election." I've been hearing this since the 60s. It must work on those who are too young to know better. ;)

Those who are too lazy to do ANY reading or research. We all have attitudes, opinions and suggestions, some are good, some are worth what they cost.

"Okay if you think ____ cartridge is so weak, stand in front of it and let me shoot you!"

That's why my sig, for a while, said "I will not stand in front of any caliber. However, in a SD situation, there are plenty I wouldn't stand behind, either."

Holden, you mentioned a lot of my pet peeves. Especially when I AM the OP that everyone is saying "non issue, don't worry about it."

THR is a place where anyone is supposed to be able to come either to discuss various topics or for information/answers.
What really upsets me is when someone asks a question and then some bozo goes thru the trouble to respond with "Just Google it!" ~ :banghead:

If you don't have a possible solution to the OP's problem, then don't bother saying anything at all.

Oh wait.... there's something else:

The old "...would you rather get hit by a bowling ball at 30 mph or a golf ball at 100 mph" analogy, really drives me crazy!
Even worse is "I'd rather get shot with gun "X" than with gun "Y".

There really isn't much about this forum that irks me enough to call it an annoyance. Sure, a few members and I have hashed it out before, but I always try and retain some civility when it comes down to it.

I'm not going to be a forum-bashing person, so I won't give out names, but I've been to other forums where ideas would get laughed at, whether they were feasible or not. To where a newbie would get on and ask a question about why their new model X rifle is jamming, or even shooting way off to the left of nowhere, and to see a bunch of veteran-status forum members hop in and proceed to laugh at him, and criticize him for asking something he had thought was a good question. There are no stupid questions, folks. Just stupid answers, and questions that weren't asked.

I voted "Gun X is better than........".

However, one of my major pet peeves is the "You need a shotgun for HD" blanket statement. I especially like it when they (and you know who you are) recommend a shotgun for someone's grandmother with arthritis and weak hands.

Pretty annoying to me is the almost daily post from someone with:
"I need reloading data for a .38 Special 158 grain lead bullet", or something equally as common.

This tells me three things.
1. The guy doesn't have a reloading manual of any kind and is too cheap to buy one.

2. He is too inept or too lazy to use the Internet to access free load data from any or all of the powder manufactures.

3. He wants me or you to buy the books and wear out the pages looking up simple basic load data for him.

I actually enjoy most of the types of threads in the poll.

My "least favorite" is probably, "Is X caliber enough for X animal?" I guess that probably falls into the bear threads.

It's actually intersting, because when I first got into guns it was always "everyone should have a pump action shotgun for HD". Then I did more reading and found the benefits of a semi-auto over a pump, and the debate now rages on whether a carbine is a better option than a shotgun. Either way, I do believe a long gun has advantages over a pistol. I also know you mean 12-gauges are bad for the granny, but a .410 wouldn't be a bad choice for someone with weaker hands. That all said, my blanket suggestion for "what is the best" would be a Glock 19 for CCW and a Mossberg 590 for HD. Adjust that answer based on what the individual wants.

The anti-Obama/anti-gun rhetoric drives me batty. The pre-2008 FUD now re-occurring is just a horrendous case of fear mongering, herd mentality and another reason why anti-gunners can find reason to hate gun owners.
I also just laugh when there is the confluence of 'is cartridge 'x' sufficient for home defense' when answered by uninformed mall ninja's who claim that 'anything less than 10MM in a 33-round magazine is just taking foolish risk'.

I have several but the one that pops immediately to mind is the "over penetration" mantra. Seriously annoying. The whole idea of shooting something is to poke holes in it. I find the arguments ridiculous. Anything that penetrates enough to trust your life to is going to shoot through at least one and probably several typical interior walls. Solution? Don't shoot towards something you are not willing to destroy, and be aware of your target and beyond. Wait...aren't those basic safety laws we are supposed to have ingrained in our skulls before we ever actually get to pull a trigger?

The caliber debates get old, esp between handgun calibers. Anyone who thinks there is that much difference between a 9mm and a .45 hasn't been paying attention. Comparing apples to apples, there is typically a 15 to 20% increase in total wound volume with the .45 as compared to the 9mm with a similar load. Whether that is worth the decrease in capacity and the increase in recoil, ammo cost, and often handgun size is up to you. But stop pretending the 9mm is an anemic pipsqueak while the .45 is a handheld howitzer.
