Whats your usually response to " Why do you need all those guns?". Try to keep it close to reality and not what you really want to tell these people.:banghead:

I know, it's crazy, it's like a woman buying more than a few pair of shoes!

Really what I tell them is that each gun has a purpose for which it was intended. You wouldn't expect a carpenter to have only one tool.

This is a good question. I have a relative that actually told me my Ruger 10/22 (in near stock form) was an assault rifle! I almost fell over! He was scared of it!! Anyway, I tell them I have the right to keep and bear arms. I have the right to protect my family. I have the right to pursue shooting as a hobby. In my hobby, as with most, there are tools. Different tools are required for different jobs. I own as many firearms as I need for the jobs that I'm currently interested in. I'm not into shooting squirrels with my deer rifle. Not worth the expensive ammo!
If they don't agree with my logic then I move to a different topic.

Bingo. More than once I've seen a person's attitude change when it's explained that guns are tools and each has a specific purpose. I generally leave "armed insurrection in case of government tyranny" out of my list, though.

And that reminds me: I'd really like to see a version of the Virginia flag "updated" with perhaps a musket or a Garand.

Because I enjoy them. I have the rifles for hunting and target shooting; I have the handguns for self defense and target shooting; I have the shotgun for missing clay pigeons (sigh).

And because I *can*.

Not a realistic response, but funny.

"Why do you need all those guns?"

*look around suspiciously* "The Voices told me I do."

hehe.

Real Response: *Stare at them like they just grew a second head* "I Need a Reason?"

Why do you need all those guns

It is worthwhile to seek out and support reputable local gun shops.

I've never been asked about why so many since I tend to not disclose numbers, but it is known by some that I own guns and some do eventually ask why (if they are unarmed of course).

I put on my somber, logical face and reply that it is for defending myself and my children, hunting if needs be (I do not hunt, but will when there no such thing as a grocery store) and for pleasure.

This answer tends to drop their guard.

Then I put on my crazy faced wicked smile and say that they are for fighting a tyrannical government, killing those that need it, and the voices in my head said I should have them.

After which I have a good laugh at the horror in their eyes and say something the effect of "I am no more of a danger to you than you are to me".

Sometimes it works out positively with those who have some intestinal fortitude, the rest just ignore me from that point forward.

I am not in the PR buisness and I let it be known from day one.

Gun ownership is an inailenable right and it is about time all the wimps had to face facts.

Live with the gun owners or get out.

"because i would rather live with the idea that i was forced to shoot someone that attacked my family, than to live with the idea that my wife or child died because i could have stopped their attack and failed to do so"

Wow, that's crazy. I just had my first conversation with an anti at work. This very subject came up. Actually, she was already upset at the idea of me owning guns in general, and went apoplectic when I told her there were 7 guns in the house (and you should have seen her eyes come out when I told her two of them belonged to my fiancee), So obviously, the question arose.

My response? "Why not? I like them, and I can."

1) Most people don't know that I have a lot of guns, and most of those who do are "gun people".

2) In the instance where a non-gun person asks such a question, my typical answer is fairly PC: "well, I like to shoot, and I've been doing it my whole life. You should try it sometime, it is a lot of fun... Want to go shooting this weekend?"

While I don't feel compelled to explain or justify my personal decisions to anyone...my standard answer is usually with questions that often progress like so:

"What does "need" have to do with it?"

"Why do I have to "need" something in order to own it?"

"Why are you asking me such a damfool question?"

"Why do you assume that it's any of your concern what I own?"

"Do you need lasagne or ice cream or three television sets or that 40,000-dollar SUV that you're driving?"

And...if the one posing the questions is still hangin' in there after that...I cap it off with:

"You do understand that the notion of need-based justification for ownership is Socialist/Communist ideology...Right?"

I don't 'need' any of them. I own that many because I enjoy collecting and shooting them. Besides, I really don't even 'need' a reason to own what I own. Ain't America Great?

told mt neighbors with this.......
