I finally added a 1911 to my collection last week - at the ripe old age of 46 with a fairly good collection of semi-auto's. It was a combination of a buddy selling a Springfield Loaded with only 100 rounds through it at a very reasonable price and me finally getting over what a piece of junk the one I qualified with in Basic was. :)
 
My first centerfire pistol was a Colt series 80 1911 in .40 S&W that my dad gave to me when I was 15. Still have it, still shoot the crap out of it.
 
First pistol--Colt Delta Gold Cup. Lightly used with box, manual, tools and 2 mags for $600. A few years ago, that is!:cool:

My first pistol was an XD45 Compact (I had been familiar with the Glocks so the XD wasn't a big jump for me) followed by a Nagant revolver (cheap and fun). I'll be adding a 1911 this month. I've got a Cimarron 1911 lined up and so all that's left is finalizing my arrangements for a transfer. I'm very excited.
 
My Grandfather gave me my first handgun, a Bersa Thunder .380. However, prior to that I was planning on buying my own, and it was going to be a 1911. I ended buying a Springfield G.I., so you can say that it is the first pistol I bought. The Springfield wasn't perfect, but I was bitten by the 1911 bug anyway.

I purchased my second 1911 last year, a Colt 1991 NRM, which has become my favorite handgun. It also won't be the last Colt 1911 I buy, as I now pretty much want one of everything they make. I'll likely be buying a New Agent later this year.

I shoot all of them well, less than 3.5 inch groups at 75 feet with less than 1.5 seconds between shots. The 1911 though is sub 2 inch groups and has been since day one. It is a bit picky about magazines, but the two it came with work flawless. The mil-spec colt mags I have seem to seat a bit high for that first round and like to jam, they run fine otherwise.
 
My very first gun was a 1911, it was "payment" for watching my buddies house for a week.

Give me a 1911 for sleeping on your bed, eating your food, watching your TV, and feeding your dogs?

Heck yes.
 
My first 1911 was my 3rd handgun...first...Glock 19, Second S&W 686+, third, Kimber Custom II.
 
First was a P89. The day I turned 21. It was used and has been my go to gun for bashing around the woods. Second was a P230 for the wife. Third was a Browning Buckmark. What a POS. Sent back to the factory twice. Sold it to go for gun number 5 which was a Kimber CDP Pro. Fourth was a SA XD V10. I refuse to keep a gun that is not reliable. My most recent purchase was a Walther P22. With all the talk online, I did not have high hopes, but it has been 100% for me with the exception of 2 duds that I even attempted to fire through my Ruger Mark II with no success. There have been others since. The Buckmark was the only one I sold. Sometimes I regret it, sometimes I don't.
 
Not old enough to buy my own yet....but when that magical age of 21 gets here the 1911 will follow shortly :)
 
I haven't ever owned one yet, the closest I've come was when my ex had a Para P-10: great little gun. I'll get around to a 1911, but they aren't going anywhere and I don't know yet what configuration I want to get so it's on the back burner for now.
 
I think it was the seventh handgun that I bought, picked one up in a gun shop one day never having touched one before and I had to have it.
 
First pistol, 1972, and any other pistol I buy for other reasons than combat, as I feel the 1911 is the epitome of the perfect combat handgun.
 
Over the years I've CCW'd everything from a Colt Pony Pocket Lite .380, a Berretta Cheetah 85, .380, a S & W 642 .38 +P, Glocks G19, G23, G27, and a G30. At one time or another I thought each of these was the perfect CCW gun for me. They were until I was introduced to a Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911, 5' in Dec. 2010. My FFL said every gun gatherer should own a 1911...then commenced to sell me the R.I.A. No regrets. For me it's the best carry gun and most accurate shooting pistol I have. In my Minotaur holster it's very comfortable to carry all day and conceals nicely even with my shirt tucked in the belt. I have confidence in this pistol after putting many rounds of all kinds of loads through it. Best part...it cost $492.00 before fees.
 
Very first! 21 years old Springfield Armory Mil Spec 1911. Nothing special, but man do I love it!
 
First pistol I ever purchased. And the only one I sold. (I do regret it, but I'm not in a hurry to buy another.)
 
Not soon enough. The 1911 is a superb design. There is a reason a 100 year old design is still very popular.
