I can see just the slightest sliver of the cylinder on the left-hand side. Really, its just barely visable. Is this anything I should be worried about? A timing problem?

Thanks,
Jason

i have this sneaking suspicion that wildalaska has in his possession a novelty gun that shoots a flag with "bang!" written on it.

Jason,

I didn't have any bullet shaving problems with the gun. Then again, I only put 20-30 rounds through it.

If the little bit of looseness affects accuracy, you can always install a Belt Mountain Base pin.

It's probably fine, but I just wanted to get a few opinions. I am totally new to revolvers.

Thanks,
Jason

Is there a tiny amount of "rotational slop" that will allow the bullet itself to cause the proper final alignment?

That's normal enough. Won't give you PEAK accuracy but it won't be too bad and it'll be perfectly safe. If there's not enough "slop" to make up the difference, that's where shaving happens, pressure goes up and accuracy heads straight into the toilet.
