I'm currently in the gun stash rebuilding stage right now. I just bought two 1911s for my birthday last month. The wife said no more guns this year.....I said " Good thing it's almost January lol."

I made a New Years resolution two years ago to curb my gun buying. I didn't make it through January before I was the proud owner of a 3" Speed Six.
 
I think of my 3 inch Ruger GP100 as the “Glock 17” of revolvers. It is tough, reliable, and easy to easy to maintain. I like it a lot and it points very naturally and feels great in the hand to me.

I would like to be a GP100 fan. I have anSP101 in 3"and it is solid. My understanding is that the GP was a little bit better revolver. I circulate around the local gun shopsquite a bit, never see a GP100. Seems that those who own one aren't likely to part with it.
 
I have three. A 6 inch 1/2 lug, a 5" 22 LR, and a 4". I love the GP's and they have never let me down. I know some think they are bit heavy and all that, but they actually weigh just about the same as the 686. Smith triggers are great, but I will take the simplicity and strength of a Ruger.

I would post a pic, but the wife has commandeered the garage for Christmas.

I have bunches of Ruger Single Action revolvers, but this GP100 is the only Ruger Double Action I have. I found it in a local shop a bunch of years ago. I like the short barrel underlug. It shipped in 1997.

Here it is sandwiched between a S&W K frame Model 19-3 at the top of the photo and a S&W N frame Model 28 at the bottom of the photo for a comparison of frame sizes.

I've bought several Ruger DA/SA revolvers in the past few years, GP100's and SP101's. I found I like the rubber with wood insert grips. If the revolver does not come with them from the factory, I've replaced the factory grip with the Ruger rubber/wood insert grip. It works for me.

On S&W Revolvers, I prefer Pachmayr Presentation grips but with S&W putting round butts on most of the revolvers and Lyman discontinuing many of the Presentation Grip line, it is getting difficult to get my preferred grip when I buy a used S&W revolver. Last I went to gun shows, I'd pick up and used S&W K-frame and N-frame square butt Presentation grips that I found.

I have one or two revolvers that came with Hogue grips. I like them better than wood grips but not as good as my preferred grip. I do not care for some of the mounting methods for some of the Hogue grips.

For me, I like the look of wood grips, they just do not work for me under shooting.

I somewhat envy the folks that can make wood grips work for them. I just hope they do not look bad on me because I need rubber grips on my revolvers.

I had thought that the GP-100 was slightly smaller than the S&W N frame and is one reason I bought it, but size wise it's the same but it has a different feel for me.

Funny you should mention Presentation grips. I just ordered them up for my Smith 67 square butt. I have been running Hogue on it in place of the really crappy skinny original wood Smith panels. I do have wood on all of my single actions though. I reshape them for my hand though.

Your right, I forgot the K-frame square butt grips were still available.

The last few S&W revolvers I purchased were second hand N-frames.

I wouldn't mind trying out some of Miculek's wood grips. I just don't want to pay for them.
 
Had a 4" GP until I found a 5" one. Sold the 4" and bought the 5" and love it. Shoot almost entirely .38's and it's both accurate and super soft shooting. Guessing it will last for ever. Big fan. Now about the .44 Spcl GP-100...
 
If I could only own one handgun, it would be a 4-inch GP100. That said, this 3-inch is one of my favorites. I polished the billboard off the side and gave the whole thing a high-gloss finish. Shown with its SP little brother.
