I went to dunhams tonight looking for a Yugo M48 instead I came home with a Steyr M95. I was really planning for the yugo so I had my sources for 8mm all picked out. Instead I got this 8x56R so now I need new places to buy from. I don't even know a resonable price for this ammo.

Any websites would be great. All I know of right now is www.southerohiogun.com. What other countries make ammo for this caliber? Am I right in assuming most of it is corrisive?

Information about what I just bought is helpful also. I wouldn't mind hearing some stories about shooting these either.

Thanks,

Mike

In the current Shotgun News, Military Gun Supply is advertising 8x56R - 250 round can for $80.

MGS is at:

You may have mad a horrible choice if you don't reload. I own a Steyr m95 myself and I've only put a few rounds through it. I knew a little about these guns when I got mine (impulse buy) and the guy that sold it to me at the gunshow had ammo on hand.... I figured hey, why not?

Well.... the ammo is all marked between 1938 and 1940. It seems to be burning at the wrong rate too as it won't cycle after being shot easily. I actually had to beat it on the table I was shooting from to get the bolt back. This may be indicitive of another problem but for now it's just a "wall hanger" rifle.

As far as I know nobody makes this ammo anymore. I've even seen things online with people giving instructions on how to resize 7.62x54R brass to 8x56R.

I thought it would be neat to have a straight pull bolt action rifle, and it is, but since I got a K31 Swiss I really have no reason to try and make it a decent shooter anmore. The K31 is in much better shape and ammo is available. Besides, it cycles WAY easier than the m95.

Well, I got an M95 last week too since I still don't have my C&R to order the K-31.

But I reload, and I won't be shooting it that much anyways. I just sent in my Ammo Waiver thing for Southern Ohio Gun.
